  • diverticulitis and Atkins

I have been on clear liquids now for most of the last 10 days. I was diagnosed with diverticulitis on Thursday. I am finally experiencing some relief from pain. the antibiotic is working! I have lost 8 lbs + in the meantime.

Anyone else dealing with this and what is your answer to the "high fiber diet" mantra that the medical establishment is pushing. I looked at some of my old fitday menus and I was running 15-18 g of fiber a day. I figure if I add fibersure twice a day to my Atkins diet that will get me above the 20-25 g fiber that they recommend.

    TIA

Now I lay me down to sleep; A cup of Splenda at my feet!
I'll be good and drink my water--Leave the grape juice for my daughter.
I promise to eat all my eggs, So take these bulges from my legs!
I'll eat my pork--I'll eat a steer--Just smooth these bumps off of my rear!
I'll never even look at jelly,Please take the blub out of my belly.
These lips will never taste a sweet, (Oh if I could only see my feet!)
So, please, tonite before I wake,
    A few more pounds--Whoosh Fairy--take!

    Re: diverticulitis and Atkins

Psyllium (including s/f metamucil), flax etc supplicments are fine to give you the added fibre. Make sure your veggie choices are higher fibre veggies too as it's best to get fibre from food sources.

Moving up the OWL stages will help as well..the added vegiies and fruits etc.

My husband has this too..so I konw how painful it is. As long as he's eating lots of fibre (easier for him with grains since he's not low carbing) seems to keep it at bay.

And make sure you drink your water!!!

    Good luck!
