  • Fit Day question...

For those of you who use Fit Day: Do any of you think that its numbers sometimes seem a little off? I mean, on certain foods, the counts is gives me are way different than the food labels. Don't get me wrong, I think it is overall a good tool, but I feel like it puts my carb count higher than it should be. I could be wrong. I look forward to reading what you all think!

    Re: Fit Day question...

I tend to create my own custom foods for almost everything. Yes, the numbers do seem off for me lots of times. It assumes that you're preparing foods the way most people do. Sometimes there will be several listings that are similar and you have to find the right one. Sometimes it assumes that something you're eating is breaded (I think this was with clams or some other shellfish, it assumed that I was eating fried clams and came up with something like 60g of carbs) so you have to kind of play around with it.

I use fitday preset things only for fresh raw foods. Anything that I buy premade, I create custom foods for. I also create custom foods for dishes that I often make. I love love love that feature. I wish it had a custom workout feature too!

      Re: Fit Day question...

Fit day also does not take into account the fiber for a total net carbs count, which is what we are suppose to be counting. As an example, I had a little bit of 100% pure pumpkin 9 carbs, 5 fiber for a total of 4 net carbs per 1/2 cup, fit day wants to count the entire 9 carbs. I keep mental notes to know where I really am at but FitDay allows me at least to keep the journal of what I am putting into my mouth. I am currently doing induction and depending on what I eat there are some days that per Fit Day my carb count is 24-26 but its due to the difference in carbs vs. net carbs.

I use dailyplate, and it has basically everything in the world, so I rarely have to make my own labels.

With Fitday, you can have it show you the amount of fiber and total carbs so it's easier to split it out and you don't have to track it in your head. It's in one of the settings - you customize it to show anything you want. Sorry - it's been a while so I don't remember the specifics.

I appreciate your comments. I guess I'll just have to remember that no program is perfect...including fitday. I think overall I'm on the right track. :]

            Re: Fit Day question...

With fitday you do have to deduct the numbers of carbs yourself but that part is easy.
I always add the raw food never cooked or prepared. With cooked or prepared there may be problems as fitday assume you add things you may or may not add.
I think it is fairly accurate for raw food. It is based on the us nutritional date base.

              Re: Fit Day question...

I use FitDay to make custom foods most of the time. I also do combo foods that I eat a lot (ie: 2 scrambled eggs w/ham cooked in butter) I go to the next day, put in all the items for my combo food and then write down (or do a screen print) and then go back to my current day, click "custom food" and put it in. That way when I eat a food over and over I don't have 3 or 4 lines - I have 1 line for what I'm having.

When I make custom food I also deduct the carbs so I only show net carbs.

                Re: Fit Day question...

To get fitday to show you the fiber carbs so you can deduct them yourself you need to set a 'goal' for fibre - any number will do.
There is a link on the 'foods' page called 'set a nutrition goal' click that then select the option 'Dietary fiber' in the 'Add goal for nutrient' dropdown menu.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
