  • any1 got sum straight answers about bmr ?

hi guys im on week 3 of induction and while im losing weight and feel good im still a bit confused about the amount of calories i should b aiming for optimal weight loss.i no calories arent supposed to matter so much but im concerned sumdays i dont eat enough for my bodyweight' to keep away from starvation mode . im male weigh 153 kgs and goal weight is about 115 kgs [big build] i am 5 feet 11 inches tall my bmr is apparently about 2850 calories but sumdays i only eat about 2000 calories . although if i have more bacon it can b as high as about 3000 calories and i find myself on days that im really not that hungary and not eating very much food ' adding calories with things like butter and mayonaise simply to up my calorie intake ' because of there high calorie content. i usually dont have much of an appetite which is good but sumdays i eat xtra calories just to get up closer to 2700 a day .now i really would like any advice about this cause most days because of not much appetite i could probaly eat about 1800 to 1900 calories a day.but this would lead me to slower weight loss i beleive ? cause of the whole starvation mode thing . sorry for the long post but i just wanna get this right thanks for any advice guys .muz

muzza, while Dr. Atkins wrote we do not necessarily have to count calories, calories do matter. One has indeed a "metabolic advantage" when in ketosis, but if you eat more calories than you burn, you will still gain weight.

You should eat just enough to satisfy your hunger. Do not stuff yourself in order to increase your calories. If you need to eat more, your body will make sure to let you know.

The easiest way to check is to use Fitday and plug your food in. It will calculate your bmr and your daily intake. Having said that, my BMR is 1782 but if I eat more than about 1800 a day I won't lose weight in spite of the fact that I generally burn about 3000 calories a day according to the calculations of exercise, etc. My optimal calories should be around 1500 (less than bmr but high enough not to enter starvation mode) for maximum weight loss--not equal to my bmr. Going by an assigned number does not always tell the story but if you keep track you can figure out the numbers that work for you and modify accordingly.
