  • Melt It Off

I asked this in the exercise forum but I think i might get a quicker response over here!
Have any of you heard of this Melt It Off workout program? I happen to see a commercial for it this morning and it claims to be able to burn 1000 calories in a 1 hour workout. Mitch Gaylord, the olympic gold metalist, apparently designed the program. Melt it Off with Mitch Gaylord :: 3 Day Melt :: Official Website

That's impressive. I was watching a NOVA science program on tv the other week. NOVA took a bunch of non-athletic people and over the course of a year trained them to run the Boston Marathon. One of the scientists said that running a marathon uses about 1200 calories for a person her size (5'4" and 120-130 pounds.) So if an exercise program can use 1000 calories in just 1 hour----it beats running the Marathon, which can take 5 hours for an non-elite runner to run.

It also makes me wonder about how many calories you will have to eat to sustain that energy. One of the runners on the NOVA program wasn't eating enough to sustain himself during the training sessions and literally "ran out of gas."

      Re: Melt It Off

The program (like most work out dvd sets) comes with a meal plan of low calorie foods, which I would of course just ignore. I think you'd have more energy working out eating our way rather than living off rice and skinless chicken! I re-found the commercial on youtube also. It claims to guarantee that you'll lose 5lbs or so in the first three days, but I suspect thats from the drastic change in the way you eat when you start the program if you stuck to the low cal meal plans it comes with.
At any rate, the work outs look pretty good. the focus on core leverage using the weighted ball, and I love that kind of workout. It comes with a 2lb ball, but you can buy a 4 or 6 lb ball.
You get 6 or 7 dvds plus a 2 lb ball for 14 bucks, thats almost enough to sell me right there lol. I don't think i'd buy it expecting to magically lose 5 lbs and a dress size in three days, but its only been about 6 or 7 days on induction so far and i'm already bored with my workouts, so at least its a good deal that might keep my interest for while!

My only problem is under this layer of extra insulation I've got, I have pretty good genes and an athletic sort of body type. I played soccer for 10 years, baseball for 4 or 5, etc. That being said, I don't ever feel like i've gotten a workout unless I'm strength training with a ball like that, or with machines in a gym. Cardio annoys me and I never wake up feeling sore or as if i've done anything

I think it's probably good as long as you're consistent. Like anything! p90x, si6...they're all awesome! Just stay consistent!

I think it’s a good plan and I agree with the other poster in this thread; CONSISTENCY is the key to your success. This seems like a pretty no-brainer program but I’d probably forgo the low calorie diet and stick it out with good old Atkins! You’d really want to make sure to keep your water intake up and eat so your body doesn’t get depleted and start burning muscle. Good luck with this!

              Re: Melt It Off

I haven't decided if I want it just yet or not. I looked on the site and the program itself is 14.99, which is a good deal for all those videos and the ball, but the shipping is like 14.80! I went and found it on ebay but it still has a few days left and 5 bids on it already, so I might just go a different route. consistency is an issue right now. I'm working out consistanly but the workouts themselves just dont feel satisfying because its not.. iono... hard enough, I guess. I end up getting irritated with the cardio (All I have in my house is the carmen electra strip tease level 1 which is way easy, and an old belly dancing video that i've done so many times its sick) So after I do them I just end up feeling like i've wasted time, and end up doing a whole crap load of push ups and things like that so i'll actually feel wiggly in my muscles when i'm done. It feels like I ought to just skip them all together because they don't engage me at all. I need some new material asap!
