well, luckily the diet pop thing isn't an issue at all for me as I haven't drank any kind of pop in over 2 years - i just gave that up "cold turkey" as i was a TOTAL diet dr. pepper / diet dr. thunder (walmart's brand) ADDICT - but that was easy enough...

but i did replace it with iced tea and caffeine free herbal teas...but for now i may even have to give those up. we shall see!

I have been on ATkins STRICTLY since May 1 2008 and lost 15 lbs only and just gained back 6 of them by introducing soy pancakes with splenda syrup on Saturday's.
I'm so sick of eggs I could scream!

Can I live without small amounts of Splenda...NO! I'm 65 years old and I think I suffer enough by living without all the foods I love. Why should I have to deny myself a few packets of Splenda? Life is totally unfair. I'll stay fat and enjoy the few years I have left. I will stay on the Atkins though because I feel so much better, but cut out the Splenda and occasional pancake...NO!

My diet is boring and the same everyday:

Breakfast M-F is eggs and bacon/sausage (if no meat then 3 eggs in stead of two).
Breakfast Sat. is pancakes with Splenda syrup
Breakfast Sunday is out... usually an omelet.

Beverage at all meals is water or hot tea no cream or sugar

Lunch M_F is a small container of chicken salad made with mayo, onion and chicken.
small container of either sugarless jello or ricotta cheese with small amount of whipped cream (homemade w/splenda)
(If not chicken salad than a reg. salad or handful of pepperoni and hard cheese.)
Sat. and Sunday - no lunch

Supper: meat of the day (whatever I make for the family) beef, chicken etc. and allowable veggies or salad.

PM snack- small bowl of whipped cream cheese with whipped cream.

Now how in the world can you gain weight on that?

I definitely avoid splenda and aspartame. They are unnatural and unsatisfying, in my opinion. I have also heard that splenda boosts your blood sugar and causes an insulin response (fat-storage) the same way that plain old sugar does! If you focus on eating whole foods, then you will lose the weight naturally, for good this time!

I do have Stevia from time to time, because I have never heard that it causes an insulin spike. Let me know, BBers, if you have heard otherwise!

Now how in the world can you gain weight on that?
I hate to be annoying, Barbee, but I have to tell you that my weight loss really slowed down when I was eating all that splenda crap. I was successful at first on Atkins, and then I started getting restless and bored with the diet, because I was stuck in a rut of eating the same stuff over and over. I started eating more and more fake sweeteners. That was the end of my weight loss.

I will never eat that stuff again, because I usually am a pretty rational person, and I started having mini-panic attacks. I cried in a mall while on vacation over nothing, I shoved my way out of a crowded evelator because I was paniced, and I started screaming at my friends because I was afraid of driving through some heavy thunderstorms. That was over a year ago, and it freaks me out to think about it, because it is so not who I am!

ADBB, check out this info, which really convinced me to avoid artificial sweeteners. These are reactions that come as a side effect of using Splenda, even in small amounts, in your diet. As I mentioned in another post, I use Stevia, because I have yet to find any claims that it is harmful to humans. I'm yanking this info from Dr. Mercola's website. He's a health food guru, and I love him! The actual link to the article is here: Is Splenda Making You Sick? Find Out Some Common Reaction Symptoms - articles - articles.mercola.com
