  • PLEASE help a uk newbie as i have questions that are causing me grief!!!!

    Im hoping you can help me, i started today and have a few questions ....also i have puta copy of todays menu on here can some of you guys have a look and tell me if im going in the right direction please ?????

    OK - Eggs.......can i have too many / not enough and do i need to count he carbs in them, if so how many please ?

    Im struggling for 'snack ideas' in between meals - savoury mainly as i dont really have a sweet tooth.

    Water - how much in 'UK' terminology should i be drinking each day ?

    Todays Menu :

    2 rashers unsmoked bacon with 1/2 cup mushrooms 1.2 carbs
    1 egg, 1 x tablespoon cream - 1 carb

    Lunch
    1 Cup iceburg lettuce - 0.2 c
    1/2 cup rocket - 0.2 c
    1/4 cup spring onion - 0.6 c
    1/2 cup cucumber - 1.0c
    1 x tomato - 4.3 c
    1 x tin tuna
    2 oz chedder cheese - 2c
    1 tblspn mayo - 1 c

    Dinner

    Beef Steak
    1/2 cuop mushrooms - 1.2 carb
    1 cup cauliflower - 1.9 c

    2 x eggs
    1 cup spinach - 0.4 c


    2 oz cheese - 2 carb.

    total 17 carbs - of which 11 comes from salad / veg.....

    Is this ok as i have been told i am eating too much salad / veg but i dont think i am ???

    PLEASE help me!!!!!

    I'll help with the bits I can...water! haha I have 50 lbs to lose, so I drink 2.5 Litres a day. When it doubt, google for a conversion from oz to ml.

    You can have 2-3 cups a day of mushroom, lettuce, rocket and cucumber, you're eating 3 cups a day

    The rest of the veggies you can only have one cup on if the above is 2 cups, not 3, so yes, you are eating a little too much.

        Are you entering your foods into fitday? I just did with some of yours, and the measurements/carb count dont add up.

        1/2 a cup of mushrooms comes to 2.5g carbs for me, not 1.2g
        1 cup of iceburg lettuce comes to 1.6g, not 0.2g

        etc etc

            Hello! One important thing to know is that you do not deduct fibre from the carbs on labels in the UK. The values shown are net carbs and fibre has already been deducted. x

              I put everything in, and got 35.9g of carbs before the meat (which isnt a lot)

              I think you definitely need to review how much a cup is!

                    You can buy american cup measures from Dyas or most supermarkets. In the meantime, think of it as the size of a teacup - not that big!!

                        Yes you will! It's really easy once you get the hang of it I blame a lot of the measurements being in cups instead of UK measurements.

                        1 cup = 235 ml

                        SO either go out to John Lewis and get an American cup measurer, lol, buy one online (very cheap, about £2) or find something in your kitchen which holds 235 ml and use that as one cup for food which you cant measure in ml's

                          Stephie -- there are several people on the forum from the U.K. who I'm sure would be more than happy to help you with amount and other things. Elizellen is one of the Moderators who you might want to contact.

                          Also, here is one of the stickies from the Induction forum - it converts weights and measures. It might help also.

                            You should be drinking about 2 liters of water per day...
