  • You've not eaten enough, and its evening. Now what?!

I had a looot lot of housework today, moving and entire room consisting of two large desks, two big ole computers, two tables, bookcases, etc down two flights of stairs, then setting them up all over again. Between that and focusing on making sure I got a workout in on top of the moving, I didn't eat nearly enough. Now its evening and i've just had dinner, and crammed as many veggies and fats into it as I could stand. Now i'm very full, but my fats are 54% and my protein is 40%. My carbs are fine.

So i'm thinking to myself hm... how can I get some extra fats before bed! I usually have coffee in the evening with cream, but even if I put 2 fluid ounces in it i'd still be 5% short on fat and 5% too high on protein.

any ideas? Is this "close enough"? Do I need to go swig some olive oil? lol ewws.
For reference here is what i've had so far, not counting the coffee and cream later tonight.

    2 Eggs
    2 slices of canadian bacon
    .5 oz pepperjack cheese
    1.5 tbsp flax w/ water

    1 romaine lettuce leaf
    1 slice of canadian bacon
less than half an ounce of pepperjack cheese

    1.5 small chicken breasts
Pork rinds, used in the breading for the chicken
1.5 cups of broccoli, chopped and steamed
    2 tbsp of butter

    CALS 1290
    CARBS 21.4
    Net Carbs After Fiber 9.8

My take is this.. your body don't know the ratios, we do and we shoot for them.. but your body will know it got plenty of fat, very low carbs, that is the most important thing, high fat to low carb. If you veer a few percent either way on a particular day, correct if you can, if you can't reasonably do so, don't sweat it.. as long as the carbs stayed low you are golden, Atkins wise.

yeah thats my first instinct mom2many. I've just been stuck between 8-10lbs for the last 5 days, so i'm trying to do it super perfect so i can prove that 10 I hit wasn't just a fluke lol

If you are satisfied and no longer hungry, then don't worry about it. Your numbers don't have to be perfect every day.

If you're hungry....I'd go for cucumber or celery with some fatty yummy dressing to dip them in!

There's something fishy with your veggies. You should be eating 3 cups per day -- max. 1 cup from the "Other Vegetables" list (e.g. broccoli) and the rest from the "Salad Vegetables" list.

So you can add some salad vegetables to that olive oil.

I actually hate cucumbers AND celery lol. My ranch dressing has 1g of sugar so i've been avoiding it and I'm out of mayo so I can't make my own. I figure later i'll just have some hot tea with cream. it wont be perfect but close enough.

Yeah georgie I know, that was the problem I didn't eat enough veggies in the first 2/3rds of the day. I was going to add some romaine lettuce with dinner but the last of it was eaten when I wasn't looking so I just made do with what I had. And I do have the net carbs listed up there!

Maybe I am reading this wrong. I am confused do you have 21 grams before subtracting the fiber? If so I think you are too low. You should have about 20 NET CARBS per day.

Re: You've not eaten enough, and its evening. Now what?!

20 net carbs are the maximum we can eat during Induction. But if you follow the 3 cup veggie rule Dr. Atkins had in the book and you don't eat too many processed foods, the net carbs average about 10-15 daily. Additionally, the veggie carbs are to be the majority of our daily carb intake. kib's net carb was 9.8. So at least 4-5 of those net carbs should have been from veggies alone. She over-ate the "other list" veggie (broccoli) by 0.5 cups and used the Romaine lettuce leaf as her "salad list" veggie.

Atkins.com changed things around recently and have that 12-15 net carbs from vegetables rule, allowing you to pick and choose indiscriminately from either list. There is a positive and negative to that. The positive is that you'll eat more vegetables. The negative is that you might choose the vegetables that have a higher glycemic index as your vegetables, which might mess up your blood sugar. See, Dr. ATkins was clever: he divided the Induction veggies into 2 lists, which are more-or-less categorized by their glycemic index. So he knew that eating 12 net carbs of tomatoes would probably destabilize your blood sugar as much as eating a slice of bread. He also knew that eating 15 net carbs of lettuce would be like eating enough lettuce to feed a family of 5, so it doesn't teach you a thing about "normal portion size" and portion control, which is important because some of us are fat because we are overeaters.

Re: You've not eaten enough, and its evening. Now what?!

I overate the broccoli because as I said, I had no other salad veggies to eat! The other person in my home ate all the romaine in between the time I ate my snack using it and the time I made dinner. I figured it was better to eat an extra half a cup of veggies from the other list than to just not, and have my carbs be even lower. I am aware my carbs were too low, when I said that my carbs were fine, I meant my percentage was at 5%.
I don't know anything about the atkins website and I didn't decide I could just eat whatever veggies I felt like. I ran out of salad veggies, and had to make do with what I had to try to get the numbers where they should have been.

                        Thanks for clarifying Megs.

Take heart kibs, we have all had days where the fridge didn't have what we needed and we made do. I think you are doing great to make reasonable alterations based on what was available. That can be tough to do at times.
