This probably has been asked dozens of times, but i cant find replys. How important do you think it is to show a positive reading,pink/purple on the ketose sticks. If i stick to under 20 carbs i get a reading but as soon as i increase my carb intake a little, not much, maybe 10-20 carbs ,im not getting a reading.Ive lost 13 lbs in 6 weeks.Everytime i try to go out of induction this happens.I take a reading 2-3 times a day hoping it will show.Maybe i shouldnt be worried about it.Im still losing about 2lbs a week. For me,seeing the positive reading incourages me.When i see nothing im wondering if im wasting my time and back i go to induction eating.I was hoping to move on to the next steps.Any comments about this? I should say also i excercise on a treadmill 4-5 times a week,no sugars, nothing im eating should be kicking me out,i read everything and im very careful in what i eat.

All the ketosticks show is that you are spilling measureable ketones into your urine.

If you are still losing I would ignore them completely and just continue on into OWL phase. Use the blood sugar symptoms and your weightlosses to gauge if your OWL additions are affecting you.

BTW I never saw any changes in the ketosticks colour even when I was losing weight rapidly.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

      Re: Keto sticks

As long as you are losing weight at a rate that is acceptable for you, the keto sticks mean nothing. Mine stopped changing color 8 or 9 days into induction (they were bright purple before) with really no change in diet. Since then I'm lucky if I see faint pink. I use them every now and again just to see, but I take the result with a grain of salt.

If you are using 2 pounds a week at both induction and OWL levels, why not move on to OWL where you can enjoy more variety? I'm only on rung 1 (and intend on staying there for awhile) but it has opened up so many possibilities for me! My sticks don't change color but I got to enjoy more of that yummy cauliflower pizza and turnip home fries.

Also, if you are exercising a lot you will sweat them out (if you wear a tshirt when you work out take a whiff...you'll smell that somewhat sweet yet incredibly disgusting sweaty smell). Also, if you have increased the amount of water you are drinking, chances are you are going to pee a lot more. When that happens your body is releasing the ketones faster, therefore there is a lesser quantity of them in each urination. Ketone strips are nice at first to see and make sure you are in ketosis, but after that they are pretty worthless in my opinion.
