  • imitation crabmeat. :(

Ok - so we went to our FAVORITE all you can eat sushi / seafood / prime rib buffet here in indy. I knew this would be hard for me as i LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE sushi and haven't (obviously) had ANY since turning low-carb.

well - i got my first plate and was very "good"...shrimp scampi, scallop scampi, crab legs (dipped in buttttttter mmmmm), a small piece of steak and some asparagus. didn't go NEAR the sushi. (huge thing for me, really)

but i asked my fiance if the BAKED crabmeat up there would have any flour or anything i couldn't have in it and he said no (as far as he knew)...so i went and got some and after a few VERY YUMMY bites - I remembered a post here about imitation crabmeat and how that DOES have carbs. So I was like, "wait a minute, this is imitation, isn't it?" and he said, "yes of course it is" (he didn't know I couldn't have imitation crabmeat)

so after the few bites I had - i put my chopsticks down and was done.

This shouldn't hurt me too bad, right?

just an aside, too, this being our FAVORITE place is mainly the sushi - but it's also because of the CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN they have for dessert (marshmallows, strawberries, cookies & bananas to dip) - and i didn't even go NEAR it. First time EVER going to this place that I didn't even LOOK at it. For that, I'm SERIOUSLY proud of myself. The thought did cross my mind to get a few strawberries for dessert - but i'm not on that rung yet, so instead i sucked on a small lemon wedge (i LOVE lemon - and rarely if ever do this...but it did the "trick" lol).

but anyways - how bad, really, IS imitation crabmeat? again - as soon as I realized that it WAS imitation I stopped eating it immediately.
but i don't know. info is appreciated. thanks!!

You should be fine. I don't ever buy it or eat it at home, but when I go to my favorite buffet I eat some of the seafood salad made with imitation crab. It is the best thing there. I always eat really legal stuff first, so it doesn't do anything to my blood sugar levels. Just carry on.

These things happen. Experience & hard knocks really is the best way to learn, because I'm betting you will be twice as thorough next time. You pick up, you move on, & you don't allow it to happen again. By the way, real crabmeat is a really great snack; I use it in crab dip at home all the time.

By the way: wow, your progress is so amazing!!!

You'll be fine, baby girl!! I know what you mean about that kind of restaurant. I haven't gone near them since last year. Going there is a big reason I gained weight in the first place....all in love and ordering Chinese takeout all the time. We loved it. Now I'm trying to shake it off, melt it off, better just not to indulge. I lived in Asia for a couple of years. I know there are things in some of those foods that would make you never go there again!!

Ok. So I am here to be accountable - afterall that's what I need all of you for...
Sunday I woke up at 182...and then monday - yesterday (thursday) I was at 181!!

But today, after last night's mishap - I am up 2.5 pounds. (183.5)

I know that it could be a ton of things - it could just be that there was a lot of sodium in the food last night...there could be tons of reasons and I KNOW it'll be gone soon enough, I was just hoping that I'd be 179 at the end of the week.

HOWEVER I accept it. I'm moving on and I KNOW it'll be off soon enough along with its friends.
It's a minor set back but that just means I will have to work hard to keep it off.

I know - with my insulin resistance that I honestly can NOT eat ANY sugar or high carb foods.

You should not have gotten on the scale! But you know that! Those restaurants have a ton of sodium and MSG in the food, and both pack on the water weight. You did not gain 2.5 pounds of fat over night. Can't happen.

Just look at the two pictures in your siggy. See the difference a couple of months makes.

                I know! :P

Believe me - i know i shouldn't have - and like i said, too - i KNOW that the gain i saw is NOT real - but it IS a scare tactic for me to know that i really need to be very careful of the foods I choose to put in my mouth.
I really appreciate your answers as well as everyone else's on here.

For me - this board is like my sponsor - seriously - i AM a carb-a-holic (well, used to be) and i just need to keep "in check"...

thanks again and i know you're right. I KNOW the "gain" will be gone and again i just need to be careful next time.
