        Re: I'm Scared

So if plan A is dependant on you losing measurable weight, what is your plan B? Have you got measurements from the last time you saw the doctor to compare with today, in case you have lost fat even if the scales don't say you lost weight? Remember to tell her that you are now able to exercise more too, which is a measure of you being more fit.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

That article is very true for low-calorie diets, but it is interpretable for Atkins... because one is not eating 800 or so calories per day. Anyway, it's obvious that skipping two meals won't put anyone into "starvation mode". What was said here by everybody is that making a habit out of this will slow down the metabolism, which is something also mentioned in the article.

                Re: I'm Scared

Bad bad bad day! I was 266 . I cried. Really cried. I've been working so hard, though, like she stated, had I returned to low carb that day and followed the diet correctly I probably would have had an incredible loss. She did not drop me, instead she gave me the diabetic diet, told me to do 1,000 calorie max, and gave me a script for phentremine (sp).

So all three scales are different, at home I am 277 at the gym I am 260-61 at the doctor I am 266. She stated that I should continue using the gym scale, that as long as the scale is telling me I am losing, I am, regardless of the number, she also told me I should continue weighing DAILY it will help me keep on track...I agree!

What will I take from my appointment? That my home scale is so far off I should toss it, that I should keep my calories 1,000 or less and that I should continue doing Atkins. I refuse to go to the starchy diabetic diet, I refuse to give up the two weeks of hard work I've put in. I refuse to give into this *&^% scale...I will beat it. I want to be in the 40s by this time next month when I weigh in again...I will work harder this month.

                  Re: I'm Scared

It is not really Atkins on 1000 calories or less - that would be a low calorie diet and in my mind a very extreme low calorie one.
On Atkins we are not supposed to starve. We are supposed to eat till satisfied and we believe (and experience) that this is what really helps.
I wish you all kinds of luck though.

Just adding: You told us earlier you lost sizes. And that is wonderful. We often lose inches without the scale moving on Atkins - the scale may move later. This is because as the cells are forced to let go of some fat they tend to hang on to some water but eventually that water will be dropped and the scale will catch up with what our body is doing . This should count for something I think. I am hoping you will think this through carefully. Hugs to you.

Wow to be honest, I'm surprised that a Dr. would put that kind of pressure on you..telling you that she will 'drop' you if you don't continue to lose weight? IMO that's a dangerous ultimatum to give you. And also 1000 a day is not nearly enough to sustain you especially if you are exercising regularily. Where did she come up with this #?

Personally this combined with the fact that she has also now prescribed you a diet drug, makes me think you might want to look into getting a second opinion.

                      Re: I'm Scared

No, I have no problem with my doctor. The 1,000 calorie diabetic diet is a physically accepted diet that has been given out to diabetics for more years than I've been alive. I have full trust in my doctor and quite frankly respect her more for taking a stand on my weight, it shows she cares and wants to see me healthy. She gave me the lecture on what can happen to me if I continue carrying this weight around, more doctors need to be as straight forward as she has been. My mother died at 62 from complications surrounding obesity, I have two young children, I would like to see grow up. She is using a relationship we have (which is very strong) to 'force' me to get serious. I thank her from the bottom of my heart. What I am doing is not working, she is looking at years of history with me and saying it is time to get going. Will she increase my calories after I show a good solid loss in a month? I have no idea, but I am at a point that I am willing to try just about anything (except the pills, I won't use those) to get this weight off...oh and I won't do the surgery either, which she is also against. No, I had a good frustrating cry, not because of what she was saying but because I could have/should have done better and am tired of being fat. Crying is natural and healthy...she sat with me and listened to everything I had to say, she is not a doctor that only looks at the final goal, she actually listens...I've had many who have no clue and really could care less. A second opinion so I can find a doctor that strokes me and tells me everything is going to be ok and that I should not place any pressure on myself when it comes to weight?...no thank you, I've had those types of doctors for years, I am ready and need a doctor that believes in honesty and telling me that I am very quickly killing myself by keeping this weight on. It has been a wakeup call that I think I've needed for the last 8 or so years.

I understand what you guys are saying, but again, I will stick with my doctor on this one. I am usually near 1,000 calories daily anyways (not easy to keep calories up when you are keeping carbs down, at least since doing induction correctly, I've not been very good at it) so I'm usually around 1,200 or less daily...dropping 200 calories will simply mean more lean meats and less dairy (which I'm completly fine with).

Really, I'm cool with most of her suggestions and will give them a month to see where they get me. Let's see what the next month has to offer. I have also decided to stay on induction for now, at least until I see another 10lbs off, then I will move on. I made that decision when I saw the number on her scale. I'm excited about the next month and proving that I can do this.

266 lbs makes perfect sense to me, bbb. Let me put things in order.

Let's say we ignore the scale you have at home and we only go by what the gym and the doctor scales say. Then this means the gym scale is weighing you 5-6 lbs lighter than the other scale:

With a 5-6 lbs difference between the gym and the doctor scales, 270 lbs at the gym mean 275-276 lbs at your doctor. So if you were to weigh on your doctor's scale on March 9th, you would have weighed 275-276 lbs. This is your starting weight on Atkins based on your doctor's scale, not 265. You went up from 265 to 275-276 by continuing WW for a while:

So if now you weigh 266 lbs on your doctor's scale, it means that, from March 9th until now, you have lost 9-10 lbs on Atkins (from 275-276 to 266 lbs), no matter on which scale you weigh yourself (at the gym, from 270 to 261-260).

9-10 lbs in 3 weeks is over 3 lbs per week. This is an excellent weight loss rate! Did you do this by eating 1000 calories or less? No! Did you do this by taking diet pills? No! You did this by correctly following Atkins and this is what you should continue doing.

Adding after I saw your last post: Lowering your calories or/and your fat intake will do you no good if you follow Atkins. If we are to go by statistics, I have seen plenty of people on the Board who stalled because they were not eating enough calories or not eating enough fat. You've lost 10 lbs. Congratulations. Now just keep doing Atkins the way you've been doing it until now, because it is obviously working great for you!

                            Re: I'm Scared

I am going to continue with low carbing...I love this way of life and what it has done for me. I am not happy with my losses to date, I really think I should have done better, the bottom line for me is the number on the scale, not what my tape measure is saying and not how my clothing is fitting.

I am not ignoring all of your input, but I will ALWAYS put my doctor before the opinions of those outside the medical field. Yes, I have seen a loss, but I saw yet another gain (1lb) at the dr. office, that is where I need to see the change. I will stay on induction for as long as it takes me to lose another 10lbs and then move on. There have been several days in the past two weeks that I've been under 1000 calories so this is not going to be a difficult switch, I have already stated I have no intention of taking any pills, I just don't see the need for them, if after another month I am not in the 240s I will rethink that decision, but for now they will sit on my shelf gathering dust.

I am afraid of pills so even if I don't see that loss I probalby won't use them. But I never say never.

I'm committed to my weighloss this time around, I want this to be over with, it is taking time for me to get the formula correct, but I can lose and will.

                            Thanks everybody!

I have found the complete opposite to be true... when doing Induction correctly and keeping carbs down, it is very, very easy to keep calories up because 65% of your calories come from fat. Fat has 9 calories per gram, versus a carb with 4 calories per gram. I honestly don't see how anyone could eat as few as 1000 calories when doing a strict Atkins Induction, and be satisfied. You said you weren't happy with your losses... if you really have been eating between 1000 and 1200 calories a day up until now, that could be a factor.

The real point I want to make - I know how it is to have complete trust and admiration for your doctor. I am like that with mine... he is 100% pro-Atkins, does believe that a person can eat too few calories, and does not prescribe diet drugs. Your doc has qualities that you admire, and since you have complete trust in her, I do think it is important that you test her theory. Please do keep us posted on your progress. And if things don't turn around the way you want them too, maybe you can try following Atkins the way it is intended.

I sincerely do wish you the best on your journey.
