Re: What about soy sauce and wasabi?

It mostly depends on the soy sauce and the wasabi. Real wasabi is a naturally green, very hot horseradish. Most of the stuff in our stores is dyed green regular horseradish with ingredients like sugar and wheat.

Same with soy sauce. Most of it has wheat. The low sodium has wheat and corn syrup. Both have outrageous amounts of sodium.

You will have to be a food additive detective and read the ingredients list very carefully. So far I haven't found any real wasabi that I can afford. The cheap stuff is full of carbs and additives. I can't use soy sauce because there is enough wheat in it to make my lips tingle and go numb and my heart race. I use the Bragg Liquid Aminos in place of soy sauce. It has no wheat or corn syrup and only has a small amount of sodium.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

How would San-J Tamari and Hime powdered sushi wasabi do?

        San-J soy sauce
Japanese Sushi Wasabi Powder, .88-Ounce Cans (Pack of 10): Amazon.com: Grocery wasabi, with ingredients "horseradish, spirulina, and turmeric"

Sorry I'm so clueless about this, I just want to believe.

The San-J soy sauce has wheat, but it doesn't look like it is has many carbs. It should be okay in small amounts. I've looked at that brand at my local high-end grocery store, but I can't use it because of the wheat (I am allergic).

The wasabi ingredients look okay, but it is not real wasabi. I don't know how it tastes, because I have only had real wasabi. I tiny little container of real wasabi powder cost $8 at Foods of All Nations.

People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Oh, thank goodness because I had a little bit with raw tuna, avocado, and cucumber!!! I'll be sure to only bust it out on special occasions, though, so that I don't go overboard.

Re: What about soy sauce and wasabi?

I've been wondering about soy sauce as well. I have a bottle of low sodium sauce and have been using it in spite of the sugar. I hate to waste food. When I run out, you specifications will be atop my list. I googled a little and found this website: Low Carb Products & Ingredients - Page 3
If you scroll down the page, it has a fairly well-researched section on soy sauce. The page has a lot other good info as well! I don't eat super spicy things like wasabi, so I can't add to the discussion on it! Good question!!

I got those two that I linked to above. Hime wasabi (in a little green tin) and San-J Tamari soy sauce (black label). I got them both at Target for like $6 total. Like Sunny said, the wasabi isn't "real," but it tasted fine in a pinch! Dear Hubs cut some raw tuna into sashimi-size bites, and thin-sliced some avocado and cucumber. It really took care of my sushi craving, and (apparently) was pretty legal!

The fact that the "fake" wasabi contains turmeric as a way of making regular horseradish hotter is a good thing. Turmeric is known for speeding up metabolism. Even the spirulina, which is added to make it green, has some very good properties.

I don't know if you know, but I am writing a book about low carb, as well as a cookbook. I have been studying herbs and spices that are good for speeding up metabolism and recently came across a medical study that shows that turmeric helps regulate blood glucose levels and also inhibits development of abdominal fat.

I will be eating a lot more turmeric in the future. Along with horseradish, which is responsible for wooshies.
