I had far more weight on me than you do when I was 49. It works just fine if you invest a little of yourself, reading and understanding the Rules of Induction and the Acceptable Food List. I have followed DANDR 2002 since the day I began this program and I swear by it!!

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.
      Start:494/current:170
      Began Atkins 1/4/2004

Re: anyone 49yrs and 270 lbs?

I started around 300 pounds at 41 and lost around 65 before I lost my drive to keep going. Since then I have been on and off a couple of times but have managed to keep most of my loss off. I have now started losing again and I won't lie---at our age (I am 48 now) it is tougher and exercise is non negotiable--you must get active to lose and keep the weight off. But the diet works if you do. I am losing even third or fourth time around and when I am doing the Atkins plan right it does right by me.

Don't worry, it is normal to eat more in the first few days. After that your appetite will be suppressed and your caloric intake will decrease. Eat only from the list of "legal" foods and stop when you are not hungry anymore. You will do just fine.

Yep, listen to Georgiana. The first couple of days your body is saying "FEED ME" because you aren't giving it sugar. So feed your body enough to keep you satisfied and on the plan. Your appetite will decrease. Promise! Also don't forget there is a metabolic advantage with ketosis you don't get with calorie counting.
