I am newly trying atkins lifestyle and I am a very dedicated person. When I set to something, I do it hardcore, which is why I am concerned. I am starting my fifth week tomorrow and I was firmly in the peeing dark purple on the ketosis sticks for about two weeks before I added back in some carbs I have added in a few veggies and an atkins bar every few days but have not even reached 10 carbs a day and I am progresivly getting lighter on the pee sticks I don't understand I am @ my lowest point and I have not even had a total of ten carbs in the last four days. has anyone experinced this or have any clues on what I am doing wrong.

Re: I need suggestions!
YOur body is probably using all the ketones it is producing if you are eating that low in carbs. It that is the case, you won't see a colour change at all.
Don't let the sticks rule you - do you see any other signs, breath changes, measurement changes, up or down on the scales? All these things mean more than what a little stick says.
Also a lot of people say the bars put them at a stall, so you may want to watch them.

Re: I need suggestions!
For starters, the color doesn't matter--it's like a pregnancy test--either you are or you are not. Most likely you were dark purple because of dehydration. Many, many things cause color changes, from when you test, how much you exercise and how much water you drink. Alcohol will register a false positive for up to three days after you drink it. They are not very reliable.
Second, you are supposed to be eating 20 net carbs a day, (for 14 days of induction) mostly from your veggies. The first 2 weeks you are supposed to be eating 3 cups of veggies. The Atkins bars are not a part of induction. You have to eat high fat and moderate protein. Ketosis is induced by the ratio of fat to carbs. Too much protein will be turned to glucose.
What you are doing wrong is doing hardcore some kind of diet, but it's not Atkins. Have you read the book? There's a lot to know to be successful at Atkins.People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
"Some men give up their designs when they have almost reached the goal; While others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting, at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than ever before."

Re: I need suggestions!
I always test at the same time at night I don't drink any alcohol and I am drinking plenty of water.
I guess after looking at the site that I am still working off of the old book which was no carbs for one week which I did for two and then to add in carbs after that. It sounds like I need to start over with the new induction period stage.
Thanks for the suggestions I am definitely new at this and need all the help I can get.

Re: I need suggestions!
You don't really have to start over as such. You are already in ketosis so that is the good news. Now you just add in some veggies form the allowed lists and you are fine. Were you eating carbs from other sources than the bar (keep those for emergency use only) and veggies?

Re: I need suggestions!
Check the ingredients of the bars to decide which level/rung of OWL to use them. If all the ingredients are 'legal' for whichever rung of OWL you are at then the bars can be used if you want them.
As far as I know the bars contian soya which would be a rung 6 food addition.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
