  • I gained 2 pounds

The last time I weighed was last Saturday and this morning I could not help myself, I weighed in...and was up 2 pounds. I don't know why....I don't really track my fat and protein and carb amounts but I am going to for the next few days to find out what is up. I did have a bit of ice cream cake on my son's birthday on Tuesday, and when I say a bit, I mean less than a tbsp...could that have done it? And I know I overdid it on the cream cheese that same day, I was ravenous all day long.

This is my second time doing Atkins and its so much harder to drop the pounds - adding in my weight gain, since I started I am only down 4.2 pounds. I didn't have anything that made me stall last time around, not splenda, not the occasional atkins bar (of which I have had none) and I even drank a glass of red wine every night last time around! That was 7 or 8 years ago, I know my metabolism has changed since then, but by this much? Aye carumba!

I have made a few changes since I started OWL...I have cut back on coffee, and actually started to drink half caffeinated, half decaf, and I stopped using the sugar free syrup I had been enjoying. Now I use a half packet of splenda in the coffee, and am slowly weaning myself off the splenda. I have a little chart with the amounts of cheese, cream, splenda, olives, etc that I am allowed to have in a day, and I check it off so I am not going over the limit.

I'm just stunned today. I probably just picked the wrong day to weigh, I know that women have lots of weight fluctuations and I probably shouldn't worry, but I'm still frustrated this morning. I think I just needed to vent.

That's a good thing to do. You'll need it as you progress through OWL.

It's not fat. From your other posts, I know that you restarted weight training -- that can make you retain water as your muscles recover. When I started lifting weights, I gained 5 lbs overnight. Aweful! Drinking a lot of water helps. When I gained the 5 lbs, it took me about two weeks to get rid of them, but I lost inches in those two weeks.

Don't worry. Just keep doing things right and those two lbs shall disappear.

Happy belated birthday to your son!

i wouldnt worry about it. I've been doing a completely clean induction for over 3 weeks. first week, lost 10. second week, started going back up. third week, and up 4lbs so i've only lost 6. No cheats, working out, drinking water. Then yesterday I had a diet rite (which sucked and made my stomach hurt) and today i'm finally back to -7. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, its just when your body finally decides to let go. Last time I lost a lot faster too. I was 19, now i'm almost 24, still young, but much slower. But last time I wasn't working out either.

Thanks for the birthday wishes...he is 15! I am not old enough to have a 15 year old

One thing I neglected to mention...I am fitting into pants that I bought 2 weeks ago that I couldn't even zip up. I wore them out last night! So I know I lost inches.

You're right about the weight training...I forgot that muscles retain water. I'm drinking 96oz a day minimum, so that will help.

        Thanks for everything!

That used to happen to me too! I would have a tiny cheat of some sort, like too many spiced almonds (my weakness!) and whooosh!

Thanks for the pep talk! I needed it. Sometimes you know what to do and that it will be all right but you need others to reinforce it so you believe it

              Hi Laurie,

Don't you worry about the 2lbs....it will go away before you know it!

Just last week I had a 5lb gain overnight, I was stunned ....I was doing everything correct, no cheats, working out, drinking lots of water....very odd. However, the very next day when I jumped on the scales it was gone including an additional pound loss.

These things happen from time to time, I agree with everything everyone above has said.

Just you hang in there, I know this can be frustrating but as they say "this too shall pass" and before you know it you'll see that 2lbs gone as well as additional weight.

Hang in there, you're doing just fine!

All the very best to you,

I am hanging in there and more determined to eat clean and not have any cheats....drinking my water faithfully! Sux how the weight gain just *happens* and then goes away...just to mess with our heads

                  Re: I gained 2 pounds

We all gain/lose differently. I have recently discovered that I generally gain 3 and then lose 5. I always gain about 2-3 pounds after I hit a new low and then it will fluctuate a bit before hitting another new one. Its really frustrating seeing gains on the scale but once you figure out a pattern or start putting more faith in the inches lost, it is much better!

You know what, I remember that happening last time now. Gain a few lose lots more. Thanks for the reminder!

Looks like you have worked it out but I am just sending a hug to say stick with it. You have a very ambitious exercise program and are working so hard so don't let the scale torment you! The inches tell the tale.

                          Re: I gained 2 pounds

I started a strenuous, heavy-duty exercise program on Monday, after not exercising but sporadically for months, and I just weighed and I am up 3.2 pounds. I am actually happy about it, because it proves I am building muscle by bathing the torn muscle fibers with fluid.

Off to tear some more muscle fibers!
