Re: Easter party
NO. If you take a break it is very likely that it might start and all out binge. It will also knock you out of ketosis and disrupt the chemistry you have tried so hard to get going.
Holidays can be tough but there are a lot of things you can eat. Ham or lamb are fine as is any meat. Make sure there is a legal salad for you and a veggie. If you arent cooking dinner, make it and take it to share with the table. You can do a broccoli with cheese melted on it, or string beans steamed and then stir fried with some bacon and onion. You can make pureed cauliflower with sour cream and cheese for a mock mashed potato. OK no chocolate bunnies or marshmallow chicks but hey, fill up on the other stuff and it wont be a problem.

Re: Easter party
I attend family dinners all the time.
You need to find out what is on the menu. Then, you will have an idea of what you may and may not eat.
Typically, there is always some kind of meat and vegetable that is perfectly Atkins friendly. It's the breads, pastas/noodles and desserts you have to avoid.

Re: Easter party
Atkins is not a "diet" that you can take a day off from without serious consequences. You can make all kinds of legal treats that will satisfy your need to celebrate the holiday, but doesn't kick you out of ketosis and bring the cravings back.
Make the holiday about being with family and friends instead of about the food. If you are religious, celebrate the actual meaning of the holiday instead of the food.
I have been doing this a lot longer than you, but this is how I have handled it from the beginning. I started out planning to cheat at holidays, but set my weight loss goals to coincide with a holiday, at which I planned to wow family and friends with my losses, and then eat whatever I wanted. I met every goal and that made me so happy, I didn't want to mess it up by cheating and getting off track. There is no food that tastes good enough, for the few minutes it is on your tongue, to mess up a good track record of losses.People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
"Some men give up their designs when they have almost reached the goal; While others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting, at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than ever before."

Re: Easter party
I went to a dinner party about 3 weeks ago. On menu was roast beef, assorted veggies (carrots, potatoes, broccoli), bread, and of course dessert. I really don't remember how the food tasted because I spent my plate time, talking with the other people at the dinner party. The food became secondary and I felt "full" when I left. I only ate what I could eat and no one pushed food onto my plate. No one tied me to the chair and "forced" me to eat the bread and the dessert. The host and hostess didn't crawl into a corner and start crying because I didn't touch the cake. No one noticed. No one cared what I ate or didn't eat.Originally posted by SunnySmile501 View PostMake the holiday about being with family and friends instead of about the food. I noticed when I was 240 + pounds that people used to push food on me, because fat people have to eat more than smaller people, right? Now that I'm 126 pounds, they don't ask me if I want more, they aren't worried that I haven't eaten as much as they expected me to. They don't mind if I pass up dessert or second helpings. I stopped behaving like a fat person and they eventually stopped treating me like one.

Yeah, i guess the first think I have to do is to change the way i think about food. 5 minutes of pleasure dont work the pain of an live-long of suffering, i'll keep that in mind. I also wanted to ask, how do you weight your food ? I dont know how to apreciate an ounce . Do I have to buy an food scale ?

wise...very wise. See, you're already winning half the battle with your wise thoughts.
I bought a food scale in the beginning, but then I learned how to eye the amounts with using the scale...it's all about learning and putting into practice. You can measure with the palm of your hand for meat portions, and I'm such a doubler on veggies that I'll eye two or three palms of veggies...especially when I'm eating out at family's or otherwise.~Lisa~
