    Hi! New here!
    Is there such a thing a TOO MUCH protien on this diet? Someone told me I should limit it to 30% protien per day, but how is that even possible on such a protien centered diet!

    Welcome to the Board.

    Atkins is not protein-centered, it is fat-centered. During Induction, 65% of your calories should come from fat, 5% from carbohydrates and 30% from protein.

    The deal with protein is that the excess will be converted into glucose.

      It isn't so much that you limit your protein, it is that fat is the largest percentage of our calories. That doesn't mean that you eat larger PORTIONS of fat than protein, fat has a very high caloric value, but we eat it liberally. If you do yourself a huge favor and model your menus after the sample menus in the book and don't skimp on fats (such a common early mistake!) you will get 65 percent of your calories from fat. That leaves only 30 for your protein 5 for your carbs. This is ESSENTIAL though, to get into ketosis. Ketosis will only happen with a very high ratio of fat to carbs.

        You will find that keeping the protein to 30% isn't as hard as you think. In fact I eat a lot of meat and eggs and usually am between 25 and 30%. If you check what you are eating on Fitday.com you will find that you probably have nothing to worry about.

          I actually upped my protein recently because of the 'severity' of the workouts i'm doing, but they're still 30% of what i'm eating. As mentioned above, atkins is not a protein centered diet, to me its a veggie based diet. fats are 65% but I eat more veggies now than I ever have in my entire life, fats just come from how I prepare my meals, and coconut oil.
