  • Sweetners on Induction Phase

    Hi All,
I was a massive success story on the Atkins a few years ago, I lost 5 stone ( 70 lbs ) in 6 weeks !!! From 19.5 down to 14.5.
But I have gone back up to 18 st after eating rubbish and I am now back on the Atkins to try to replicate my previous success.
I am wondering if I am doing ok but very slowly this time around, as I am not including approx 500ml of unsweetened soya milk and 4 artificial sweetners ( 2 per serving )
Is this why I am not losing weight at any speed ?

    Thanks

What kind of sweeteners? Aktins says 3 packets of splenda per day maximum. Also, soya milk is not legal on induction.

If you are not including 500 ml of soy milk and 4 servings of sweeteners, then that's fine.

The sweeteners allowed on Atkins are sucralose, saccharin, cyclamate and acesulfame-K. As Laurie said, soy milk is not allowed on Induction. You can have soy cheese though, but you have to count it towards your cheese allotment.

          Re: Sweetners on Induction Phase

I will write back again next monday 13th April, to say if my weight has changed I am currently 110kg.
Interestingly, I was 113kg on th 18th march 09 when I started the Atkins again, and using the ketostix ,I found that I am in ketosis but I went back down to the paler end after being in the darker end of the stix, in the first week.
So can I have any soy milk for a cup of tea in the morning ?
The sweetners are called "Hermasetas" (saccharin) but I will switch to splenda in my tea ..If the milk is allowed .
          Thank you

BTW Is sugarfree jelly allowed ? That's the English version of jelly that wobbles rather than Jam/Jelly.
          Thanks

Sugarfree - does not mean problem free of even FREE for us who low carb. We have to find out what kind of sweetener is used, is it allowed and can we tolerate it. Many people cannot tolerate sweeteners at all. Then if we can eat it, we have to limit sweeteners to 3 a day. The jelly is sweetened with something so read the label and find out.

No soy milk till rung 6 I am afraid. You can use cream in your tea. It is allowed

If the color changes, then you are in ketosis. The color nuance is just an indicator of the concentration of one type of ketone in your urine and it does not say anything about your rate of weight loss.

My advice would be to stay away from frankenfoods during Induction, in order to maximize your weight loss results and be able to determine your degree of metabolic resistance more accurately.

                Re: Sweetners on Induction Phase

Skieferin, I have not seen any 'sugarfree' jelly packs made with a 'legal' sweetener for Atkins. You can make your own by using unflavoured gelatine and one of the sweeteners Dr Atkins listed.

Remember we are allowed up to 3 servings of sweetener per day - including those used in drinks.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
