  • Evening meltdown!

I am in an awful pattern. I do GREAT all day but in the evenings, a little before bed, I find myself CRAVING snacky stuff - like crackers! And I must admit that a couple times I've grabbed a handful of my kids cheese crackers in the cabinet!! I seem to get this urge even if I've fully satisfied myself at dinner.

Any insight to why this may be happening? Any ideas as to crunchy type snacks that would be friendly?? I've just restarted induction this past Monday.

    Thanks.

    Re: Evening meltdown!

There's a post for a cheese cracker type snack - but I cant remember where it is - hopefully someone can post the link.

I have the same issue - snacking at night. I made some "crackers" by putting grated cheddar in the microwave for about 2mins. It firms up and is crunchy and tastes great. I can have a bit of that because it's strongly flavored and be satisfied - and more importantly, stay away from those pesky potato chips in my cupboard!

      I agree with Simona
Save some of your cheese 'allowance' and make yourself some cheese 'crisps' to have ready!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I used to be a ravenous night time eater until I started eating a regular breakfast everyday on Atkins. Are you eating breakfast every day?

Pork Rinds do it for me. Crunchy and tasty. I have a hard time at night as well. For the past 10 years or so, I got into the late night eating , mainly because i am a bartender and get home late, and it takes hrs. to wind down. So, it has been really hard to knock the late night stuff out. I manage most of the time, but when I want that certain "something" and the thought just won't go away until i give in. So yeah, PorkRinds help alot, for the salty munchies, but I also have a relentless sweet tooth as well. this little treat hits the spot! I take about a 1/4 c. of coconut oil, melt in microwave, add a shot of davinchi syrup or few packets of splenda. ,1 tbs coco powder, extact flavor of choice, just a few drops usually do it. let chill for about 10 or 15 min. My favorite add ins.. toasted coconut. Macadamia nuts or pecans. YUMMM
Make em ahead of time, so they are already to go, but .. you may want to have your DH or other family member hide the extra stuff for another day. There have been a few times where I didn't stop at one or two

Thanks for the ideas! Yes, I usually eat breakfast every day so I've got that tackled.

              Re: Evening meltdown!

I can certainly relate to night snacking. That's when the hunger monster hits me. It's all about healthy choices.
If it's cheese crackers you crave,,,,make your own. Place grated cheddar/cheese you desire or cut thin sliced cheese triangles on parchment paper lined baking sheet. Place in a 400 degree oven for about 5 minutes or untill desired crisp. Some folks like to put seasoning like garlic or onion powder on them before they bake, but I like mine plain.
They keep well in a air tight container if you'ld like to make some up ahead of time.

                  Re: Evening meltdown!

Have late night snacks prepared and ready for when the hunger hits... that way you have something already made to grab and can pat yourself on the back for not ruining a whole day of induction...

                    Re: Evening meltdown!

I feel this way every night but am not really hungry and am trying to get myself out of this habit since it isn't physical hunger driving it. I get a big glass of water and go upstairs to read. It is sitting in front of the TV with DH that seems to make it worse. Once I go upstairs I can better cope. I feel this way 5 nights out of seven (but it used to be 7 nights out of seven so its getting better)

                      Re: Evening meltdown!

Jill is right, if you were satisfied with you evening meal you are probably thirsty more than hungry....drink a large glass of water and walk out of the kitchen.....wait a half hour, if you think you are still hungry try some radishes, celery, zucchini chips or the cheese chips I make

Deluxe Cheese (the thick slices) -- cut into 4 equal parts, place on parchment paper in the microwave for 1-1/2 minutes or until brown -- the more brown the crunchier they are. You can also put pepperoni slices on parchment paper and put them in the microwave for a minute or until they are crunchy -- both of these are delicious and have gotten me through many evenings (especially when I first started the plan)

                      Good luck
                      Carole

I have "late night monsters" too. What do I do? I drink a glass full of psylium fibers and imagine is mushroom's cream... Then, a big glass of water. Then I brush my teeth... I take a good book and read till falling asleep.
Cheese is nice, but it stalls me...
