    Hello
I am wondering how many atkins bars I am allowed per day during the induction phase ?
I usually have one in the morning , a "Atkins day break" bar, is this ok each morning ? Also I have just had one tonight around 11.20pm so this is my second of the day, its not a usual nor regular thing but is it allowed ?
    Thank you

I suggest that you do not have them during introduction. But use that at a later stage. Some people claim that they slow weight loss - but each of us is different.

I was going to recommend the same thing - avoid them during Induction. I'm afraid to use them because I think they'll just keep my sugar/carb cravings alive and kicking! Who needs that?!

I think zero is the amount I would recommend too.

          Re: Atkins bars

I wuld suggest looking at the list of ingredients of any lowcarb products before deciding which phase of Atkins they are suitable for no matter what the manufacturer says on the label

As far as I know NONE of the bars are induction 'legal' if you look at what is in them and compare that with the induction rules.
          4. Eat absolutely no fruit, bread, pasta, grains, starchy vegetables or dairy products other than cheese, cream or butter. Do not eat nuts or seeds in the first two weeks. Foods that combine protein and carbohydrates, such as chickpeas, kidney beans and other legumes, are not permitted at this time. 5. Eat nothing that is not on the acceptable foods list. And that means absolutely nothing! Your "just this one taste won't hurt" rationalization is the kiss of failure during this phase of Atkins.
The Atkins bars all contain at least one ingredient that is not allowed according to rule 4 of induction so they should be avoided until you have reached the OWL level/rung where all the ingredients are allowed.

Here is the info for the 'Apple Crisp' Day Break Bar

The wording is tiny but I can see listed
yogurt and milk products (rung 2 OWL)
          soy protein (rung 6 OWL)
apple paste and apple puree (rung 7 OWL)
          corn starch (rung 9 OWL)

I may have missed other non-induction ingredients in the list but in my opinion this would be a rung 9 OWL addition - not induction.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            Re: Atkins bars

I can only share my experience ... I ate an Atkins bar each day of my first week (and along with a few almonds and too much caffeine). I didn't lose anything until I cut out all 3. I don't know if it was the Atkins bars themselves, but I am not taking any chances right now! LOL No Atkins bars for me for at least a while (though they were very yummy).

              Re: Atkins bars

I wish they would be taken off the market because so many people buy them and eat them because they say Atkins on them.....the shakes are the same way. Read the book, look at the acceptable food list ... if it's not on that list don't eat it - it's just that easy

                  Re: Atkins bars

I've tried Atkins on two different occassions, once for six weeks and another for about three weeks. Both times I was sticking with induction rules and both times I ate plenty of carb bars. I counted the carb bars and carb ice cream as indicated by their NET carbs and lost tons of weight both times. I lost 30 pounds in six weeks the first time, eating plenty of carb ice cream and carb bars (but staying under 20, using the net total as a guideline). The second go around I lost 20 pounds in three weeks, again - eating lots of carb bars to get me through. Everyone is different, but my body handled them just fine during induction on two separate occasions.

In your other post in this forum you write

Twice in the past couple years I've started Atkins, only to stop within a month or so (despite great initial results). My first attempt on Atkins I lost 30 pounds in six weeks, but fell off the wagon after a carb blowout. I regained all the weight and then some.
... I just binged on carbs (which I had been starving for). I went way overboard, eating the worst kind of junk food,
Have you ever thought about the connection here? By eating illegal ingredients in bars and ice cream and an excess of sweeteners you were not able to to do the diet properly and try to get those carb cravings under control and you failed. To me it just proves that convenience foods like these are better left to emergencies.

                      Re: Atkins bars

I agree, liv, on the principle of the bars mimicking tempting carbs which could lead to quitting Atkins prematurely, but in this case I was just speaking to the fact I was able to lose a ton of weight even while eating them during induction. What I lacked in sticking to Atkins was willpower, but the bars themselves, on a technical level, did not seem to slow my weight loss.

                        Re: Atkins bars

What many of us have found is that by not feeding our sweet tooth while on induction that we don't need much in the way of willpower in order to stay eating onplan

Not much advantage in losing weight while feeding our sugar monster if once we have lost the weight our sugar monster helps us pile the pounds back on again
