  • Pepperoni question...

Ok, I have a question about pepperoni. I haven't been able to find ANY pepperoni that doesn't have dextrose listed in the ingredients. Does everyone else have dextrose in theirs too? I used to take pepperoni and mozzarella string cheese to work with me daily for a snack but I've run out of pepperoni and wonder if I should even buy it anymore. Check your labels and tell me what your experience is.

    Re: Pepperoni question...

All that I have ever seen has dextrose or sugar. That's why I don't eat it often.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

I have a few pepperoni slices microwaved and patted dry every once in awhile but not a lot. The brands I've seen have sugar added also.

That's too bad!! I have in the past 2 weeks only had it occasionally but the weight is coming off faster, I've noticed. When my son cooks up a pizza, I make one of my own. No crust. Shredded mozzarella, a layer of pepperoni, more shredded cheese, another layer of pepperoni and a little more cheese. It's small in diameter so the actual pepperoni doesn't equal even 1 serving on the package BUT maybe it was having an impact on results. Interesting.

Very frustrating! Just know that later down the Atkins road, you will be able to enjoy these foods more often! I used to microwave a plate of pepperoni chips and eat them with cheese often. I lose more weight when I skip them, so it's been a while since I last enjoyed them!

LOL, sounds like my post on bacon and hot dogs. I guess its pretty much the same for bacon and hot dogs, pepperoni, sausage and other processed meats...it's better that we don't consume these too often, huh?

Yeah, it is much better to avoid them. I do miss pizza though and my son is soooo tired of me stealing the toppings off his pizza!! It's a good snack to increase your fat percentages for the day. Fatty and filling!! It's also an easy portable snack and I really have to have legal options at work. The vending machine has nearly 50 choices inside it. The only ONE thing I can have in there is pork rinds. That's it.

LOL..My 14 year old keeps arguing with me about the topping I steal from the pizza too. He thinks it's a waste for me to eat my pizza - the crust. I beg to differ!

                    Re: Pepperoni question...

Well, I purchase Boar's Head slices from my local Publix deli and they claim there is less than 2% of dextrose flavorings. 5 slices amounts to only 1 carb and the slices are large and round (not to mention delicious). So perhaps I'm missing something...?

I just count the carbs on processed meats... otherwise I wouldn't be eating much of anything... You can go overboard on trying to eat too perfectly... I love pepperoni, 5 slices at a time... YUMMM
