  • Yet Another Atkins Benefit

Before Atkins, I had to eat something every two hours. If I didn't I would get irritable, miserable... and if I stretched it to 3 hours, I would feel faint and sick.

I just realized today that I am eating three meals a day and only 1 small snack in the evenings. And I never feel irritable or faint anymore.

I supposed that my blood sugar stabilizing is the reason!

    YAY Atkins!

It's definitely the blood sugar. The symptoms you mention ("I would get irritable, miserable", "I would feel faint and sick") appear in the Blood-Sugar Symptom Test on page 150 of DANDR, indicating blood-sugar stress. In fact many people, when they move to OWL, forget how broad the spectrum of blood-sugar stress symptoms actually is -- they only consider a food to be a "trigger" if it causes them hunger/cravings, when in reality there are so many other symptoms one should look for.

Good job for getting things under control!

Georgiana, I had forgotten about that test. I took it the first time I read the book and scored 91.

I just took it again, and this time my score was 19!!!

I'm so glad you mentioned watching for that in OWL, also. I'll be extra vigilant!

Ditto - it's a huge relief that hunger doesn't feel like falling off a cliff anymore. Now it's a gentle feeling that I should eat something in the next hour or so. Very liberating!

Yes. I know just what you mean. After about a month on Atkins I realized that I don't have to wait for a "good mood" to do something. I'm pretty happy pretty much all of the time these days.

          Cheers,

Atkins is the perfect diet for hypoglycemics... Not being a slave to having to eat when the stomach cramps come and the dizzy spells is SO great!
