Re: gym membership, a little nervous

hah i certainly hope its addictive. i played soccer for 10 years when i was a kid so i remember how being active makes you feel. i only missed 1 practice my whole life and that was cause i had chicken pox, and i cried because i wanted to go lol.
i love weight training so i'm pretty excited to play with new machines, and it'd be nice to have someone suggest how many reps and what weight etc, because even though i love it it doesnt mean i know what i'm doing lol

That's really not fair at all. I don't typically talk to others while I am doing weight training - it's a waste of my time. I am there for whatever time I have, and I am pushing myself that entire time so it is not wasted. It is not because I am "super serious", it is just that I go to do the workout, not to socialize. They even say that you're not supposed to take a chatter to weight train because you don't train as hard as being alone, or with someone who doesn't talk much.

Cardio on the other hand, I will talk to my friends while doing.

im the same, im not terribly interested in talking when i work out. i like how working out makes me feel more grounded and talking just distracts me

Okay--I know you are not a Shrinking Violet. Here's the way you do it: Right before you walk through the door, say to yourself: "What's the worst thing that can happen? They can't kill me and eat me!" Then hold your head high, put a big smile on your face, square your shoulders and strut your stuff through the doors like you own the place. Be friendly and open and you will own the room!

I've done this for years. It's gotten me through appearing with the governor and speaking on the Senate floor, giving speeches in front of hundreds of people or singing a solo in front of a crowd or on T.V.

First appearances are everything. You have what it takes to make a good impression.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
