I have the book and have done so much research but i can't seem to get my head around the whole eating fat to lose fat I've eaten clotted cream today and feel bad, even though I know i shouldn't but i'm not sure why...

Help? Can someone explain in an easy way please?

Re: Eat fat and burn Fat??

A couple of things-- a small amount of dietary fat goes a long way in keeping you from being hungry and having cravings. It satisfies your need for something rich and creamy feeling and it stays with you for several hours. As a result you actually tend to eat less food during the day without feeling hungry.

Also, your body uses the easiest fuels first like sugars and starches. Fat and proteins are harder to digest so it takes more calories to digest fats than sugars or starches. This is an advantage of a high fat diet.

Finally, (correct me if I am wrong because I don't have my DANDR here in China) stored body fat is easier to metabolize than just ingested fat so you actually burn even more of your stored fat because its less work for your body to use the stored fat rather than the fat you ate. You won't store the fat you just ate because you aren't hungry and are not therefore eating more calories than you need in a day.

    Does this help a little?

for me, when I started atkins, this was one of the HARDEST "hurdles" to overcome.
I've been a proponent of "low-fat dieting" since probably the age of 12 (and i'm turning 30 this year)...

But it's all about science. The low-fat diets out there are NOT good for the human body (mainly when you add in all the high-carb/high-sugar crap you end up eating because they're "fat-free" for example, licorice or jelly beans)...

Fat keeps you satiated and in turn, I know for me anyways, I don't feel hungry all day long like I did when I wasn't eating fat.

Now as far as eating straight cream - I'm not sure how healthy THAT is for you either...what you need to do (if you haven't already) re-read the book but also do some research on why low-carb diets are GOOD for you.

The biggest thing I've had to really re-teach myself is that old knowledge of "eating fat makes you fat". that's bull. UNLESS however you're also eating sugar. SUGAR is what makes you fat because SUGAR spikes your insulin and when body makes too MUCH insulin - your body tends to hold on to everything in your body (including fat) and you in turn get fat.

But when you're NOT eating sugar and you're only eating healthy fatty foods - your body doesn't turn on that insulin making machine and so your body will not actually GET fat.

I am insulin resistant, just like many people on this board - and so if you look that up or "metabolic resistance" you will find all this information.

I know - again, for me - learning all the science behind WHY fat is good for you actually got me over my fear of eating fat. AND I can not tell you how YUMMY it is to eat REAL food again!

It is so hard to get your head round it But i am getting there.

Day two and no cravings AT ALL, I'm now really cross at myself for coming off atkins, my clothes are all tight and i'm feeling quite down but glad i'm here again and this time i'm sticking to it All things happen for a reason and this was my wake up call. Looking forward to the gym tonight as well..

Re: Eat fat and burn Fat??

I had a hard time keeping my fats up for a long time. I dont have any problem with eating it, but I just didnt think to add it in to a lot of things i was eating, but if you do a little thing in every meal it really helps. you dont have to eat a whole lot to get your percents up either, just have a little in every meal.

to keep fats up I cook my eggs and veggies in real butter, and add butter to my steamed veggies too. i make mayo-based dressing for my salads (just mayo, garlic powder, paprika etc, and mix it all together) and eat 1-2 tbsp of that with my salad, and its also really good to dip chicken in etc. I take coconut oil also 2-3 times a day, but for some people the texture is hard to get past. beef has more fat than chicken so on days your fats low you might eat ground beef for dinner. make sure to keep the skin on your chicken too, it tastes good and theres more fat in your meal. Back when I was eating bacon and sausage (im avoiding nitrates and processed food now), i'd save the grease from the pan at breakfast, then for my salad at lunch, reheat the grease and pour it over my salad. It has so much flavor and ta-da, fat in your salad without eating sugar filled dressing.

I fry my eggs in the leftover grease from a slice or two of bacon. Cream in my coffee, although now I use half and half. Mayo and olive oil dressings on salads and butter on veggies. Also when I grill veggies I brush them with olive oil first. Avocado is also high in fat and sometimes I slice that on my salad if I am low in percentages that day

To get extra fat into your day - dip meat and veggies in Hellman's Mayonnaise, cream cheese spread on ham or other lunchmeat rolled up, cream cheese put in celery, coconut oil is a great way to get extra fat in your day and it tastes yummy.

              Hope this helps

I like making bacon and saving its grease in a jar to use with all my cooking. Not only does it taste great, it's a wonderful pan seasoning aid. I'd recommend it to anyone. Just be advised to use a strainer when emptying the bacon grease; you want to preserve the liquid, not leftover bacon deposits.

Re: Eat fat and burn Fat??

Strange concept, but it comes down to how the body works. Our body burn carbs for fuel; when you limit carbs, the body is now burning fat for fuel. Ingesting fat isn't adding to the fat on your body, it is becoming part of the fuel.
