  • did i get the right ketostix?

    the ketostix i got say the test results will range from light pink to dark maroon. and from what i keep reading about them it says the test should be light pink to dark purple. they also say that it test for acetoacetic acid is this the ketones i should be testing for.please dont think im an idiot i am just new to the low carb thing and dont know a lot about it yet.

    Yep, these are the ones you want, Cam. Ketostix only test for one kind of ketone, and that is acetoacetate (or acetoacetic acid). The color is just an indicator of the concentration of excess ketones, i.e. ketones that are not used as fuel by your body. As long as the color changes you are in ketosis, although you can be in ketosis even without changing the color.

      Maroon could be said to be a similar colour to dark purple
