Question - do any of you eat flax seeds on a daily basis?
The bob's red mill flaxmeal that I have - according to the website - actually has 1.33 g of soluble fiber and 2.67 g insoluble fiber - so I do count the 1.33 g of carbs from the total carbs on the nutritional info (4 g carbs and 4 g fiber...so i count the 1.33 which is insoluble)...

the question I have - does anyone out here in ADDB land incorporate flax seed meal on a DAILY BASIS? And - if you do - what is your weight loss like?

Just curious if anyone has noticed any benefits of any kind by using them daily. thanks!!

Re: flax seeds - do you eat them on a daily basis?

Well, you know what my weight loss is like! Unpredictable!! I have been using it regularly. I eat pumpkin nearly every day. I throw in a couple tablespoons with it before I nuke the pumpkin. Pumpkin is filling and a good source of fiber all on its own---but if you add in some flax, waaaaaaay better than the fiber drinks. I don't know that it helps or hurts with the loss, but I know what it does do!! And that, my friend, is a welcome side effect!

i'm with you; i eat flaxseed almost everyday on my big lunch salad. excellent fiber, but more than that it's probably the best natural cholesterol lower-er(lol) there is! read up on flaxseed and you'll be blown away by its benefits.

Re: flax seeds - do you eat them on a daily basis?

I eat flax every day. I am not losing fast, but am losing steady. This is not my first time around the Atkins block and I ate flax every day before, so I can tell you this for a certainty, whenever I eat flax consistently my complexion is amazing.

You know how you can get blanket marks in the morning, on your face? Mine are always gone within 30 minutes now. Interestingly, we went out to breakfast a while back with another couple.. more like brunch, a friend of my husband and his wife invited us. The wife had a big blanket mark on her face.... still at 11 am or so.

I am 45 and my skin has the resiliency it had back in my 30's. I still have my little crow's feet, but what can I say, I smile a lot!

One thing about flax, it is filling. You will find yourself not all that hungry for hours after eating it. New research is showing that the Omega fats in flax can 'sub' for the omega fats in foods like salmon. Now I cannot afford to eat salmon often at all, but flax is cheap!

I make a flax cookie everyday -- I don't know if it helps me loose weight, but it does help me stay regular and that is something I'm very happy about....LOL!! The only thing I crave is a flax cookie - I use to eat one at night after dinner but this week I've had one sometime after lunch...they just taste so good!

I used to eat flax everyday. Then after doing my own research on flax, I decided it wasn't something I wanted to expose my body to on a regular basis. Also, I found that moving to OWL Phase eliminated the need for any additional fiber supplements and I could find Omega 3 sources elsewhere.

But it's a personal decision and I came to mine after reading alot of flax industry-sponsored material and non-flax industry-sponsored material.

I keep it on hand and make a flax muffin now and then for regularity or being able to have something quick and easy for breakfast...but I can't have it every day or I'm over regular.

One thing you that are cooking the flaxseed need to know--you destroy most of the health benefits when you heat it. After cooking, about all that is left is the fiber.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Re: flax seeds - do you eat them on a daily basis?

I'm like Meg's I used to eat it every day until i researched it more, and wasn't sure it was good for daily use...as well I was cooking it which as Sunny pointed out is not beneficial.

I actually suspect it has in the past caused me issues with stalls.

I now use Chia seed to get my EFA's and fibre. They have more Omega 3's than any food including flax, are very mild tasting and can be added to pretty much anything, do not need to be ground (they're tiny round seeds) to get their nutrition, and cooking them does not affect them at all. They're also interesting to use in cooking as they 'thicken' foods by creating a gell when soaked in liquid. I like them in yogurt as it thickens it almost to a mousse consistency when left for 10 mins.

Chia for Health - Dr. Weil info on them. It's a good alternative for anyone that doesn't want to consume flax.

i just realized I should also add, Chia is not on the list of acceptable foods for induction, it's only gained popularity recently...so you can wait for the nuts and seeds rung or proceed with caution if you do add it as a fibre suppliment.

                            The nutritional info is

                            in 2tbsns

                            46 cals
                            4g's fat
                            2g sodium
                            5g's carbs
                            4g's fibre
                            3g's protein

Ok, now I'm curious what information you came across that made you unsure of its benefits?...of course everything I've researched on it says how FABULOUS it is...
