  • Time of the Month :( booo

    Hey guys,

I was just wondering how the good old time of the month affects you while on induction and atkins? Do you experience weight gain? Water retention? Being bloated?

I have started induction (second time round) just when my time of the month has started, feeling all bloated and "fat" probably not the best time to start induction by hey-ho here i am.

Does the time of the month and all the hormones affect weight loss progress? Any tips and tricks to get over them?? x

I gain 4-5 pounds every month about four days before TOM and then lose it off the third day of TOM. I am also ravenous the two days before TOM appears.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Although I'm doing extended induction, I got aunt flo starting my 3rd week into atkins. I was up 2lbs right before she came AND it was Easter and that candy was just calling my name!!! However, I'm day 3 into my cycle and I"m down 3lbs today, so I think it's just something I"m going to expect each month and hope that it whooshes off as my cycle begins to end.

I literally gained 5 pounds over night on Saturday, i've never had that before - and i know it can't be down to actually putting weight on but they have still not shifted - drinking tonnes of water, staying away from salty food and hoping that by the end of the week I can do my jeans up again

I also started atkins around TOM, a day before actually. My first week I didnt have any real problems losing weight. This month, I noticed i had gained 1lb with pms, so I quit weighing until TOM started and went away. However, I'm only on day 2 or 3 of actually bleeding, and weighed today out of curiosity and i'm down 3lbs from the day that I had gained. So I think that the weight gain is more prevelent during pms for me personally, not during TOM specifically. I also drink a LOT of water around this time to prevent it.

You might gain weight, however as long as you are still doing Atkins you will not gain FAT. Just ignore the scale until it is over.

Ignore the scale during TOM!!!! I gain about 4-5 pounds within a few days of TOM, then by third to fourth day after cycle start I am back down. I am starving withi a day or two of it and tend to eat a lot of cheese or pepperoni snacks. By the way, any time is a great time for induction! Congrats on starting!!

I am totally going to ignore the scale until I've finished!!! Damn TOM messing with my atkins how mean!

End of day three on induction (again) hehehe and feeling really good, apart from the period tummy cramps not craving sweeties or chocolate AND not going to weigh in until i've done a full week

Re: Time of the Month booo

Dr Atkins actually mentioned that 'time of the month' in DANDR
If you start Induction before or during a menstrual period, it may take longer for weight loss to register.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
