ive been holding on to just a table spoons worth of regular caffinated coffee mixed with my decaf for months and have wondered why i havent lost any weight or inches plus i was still getting hungry ,i had already given everything else up and been even using liquid splenda insted of granular splenda . the very fist day of giving up that one table spoon my blood pressure is normal [ ive had super high bp for 15 yrs ] plus on third day lost a couple pounds and my stomach is flatter [ less fluffy ] [ lol ]then normal and i,m finally not starving every minute of my life . what a difference just one table spoon of caffeine a day makes on blood sugar and insulin . i new the rules but thought just a table spoon shouldnt hurt or make a big difference but it does for some of us . still drinking decaff with no problem .

Re: giving up caffeine made all the differance
Glad to hear you found something that worked for you. Sometimes we need to tinker a bit.
Coffee is one of my biggest problems too. It makes me hungry - and as a result I over eat. At least I have figured that out.

That is amazing, who would have thought it would have made such a difference?
Kudos to you for working it out though
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: giving up caffeine made all the differance
We should avoid caffeine because it stimulates a temporary surge in blood sugar which is then followed by an overproduction of insulin that causes a blood sugar crash within hours. If you're trying to lose weight, this rollercoaster will actually cause weight gain since insulin's message to the body is to store excess sugar as fat.
When we consume caffeine with meals, it causes blood glucose to swing wildly and insulin to go out of control. Drinking coffee or consuming caffeine in other beverages may make it harder to control glucose. Insulin sensitivity is decreased by caffeine.
For those that have hyperinsulinism caffeine can be brutal on blood sugar.

Re: giving up caffeine made all the differance
There are studies which suggest it causes insulin spikes and increases food cravings, but I have tried induction twice before and lost tons of weight even while consuming large amounts of caffeine. It's really hit or miss, depending on your willpower and body type.Originally posted by shelly808 View PostWHAT??!!!! I had no idea that caffeine effected blood sugar????

Re: giving up caffeine made all the differance
I am quite the opposite when i have my morning half cup of coffee I have to wait at least an hour before I eat because even half a cup fills my tummy! But I believe that it might mess with my weight loss if not now maybe a bit later so I ve cut down to only half a cup and hopefully i can cut it out all together in the near future.Atkins Startdate: Monday, March 9th, 2009
