  • Giving it up all at once??

Okay I admit I am not only addicted to carbs but I have a MAJOR addiction to Diet Mt Dew that I really want to kick and know I must to finally take back my life once and for all!! Did anyone else do this, start Atkins and give up the diet cola at the same time, i figured if I am going to go through the carb withdrawls I might as well kick em both to the curb at the same time!!! Did anyone else do this all at once and how long did you feel like poo :-(

Yes, it's best to go cold turkey on the diet drinks.

And yeah, you WILL feel like pooh, probably for a week.

But then, when your energy surge hits you and you are addiction free, you will be so glad you did!

Induction symptoms usually last about 4 days... Caffeine withdrawal usually lasts about 2 days, I would estimate that your first two days would be a living **** and then temper down a bit until you feel great after a week or so...

It's a lot easier to get off of the caffeine and then start the diet, because your diet symptoms aren't guaranteed to be bad, some people have none at all... and by doing it separately, you will know for sure which symptom is attributed to what withdrawal.

Anyway, either way, good luck! I gave up the caffeine about a month into the diet and the headache was killer...

Re: Giving it up all at once??

I was a 10-diet coke a day person and figured I'd rather be miserable all at once with the withdrawals than risk keeping my caffeine addiction alive, then trying to kick it while on the program. I was afraid that the caffeine withdrawal would derail my discipline on the WOE. So, after over a month, not a single coke (or any non water/seltzer drink) for that matter. I really don't miss it at all.

I started Atkins and kicked the caffeine and aspartame thing all at the same time. I felt like he11 from about day 3 to day 8. The headaches on days 6 and 7 were horrible. But I am on week 4 now and feel awesome! I have never had so much energy and do not crave caffeine at all!

              Hello,
I gave up my 20 year coffee addiction. I was uncomfortable for a few days - had a headache.... but not that big of a deal.
I am sure it's best to just do it. Why prolong the inevitable? you know? Besides, I think the jury is still out on long term consumption of these diet sodas...there are conflicting studies regarding risks.

              You CAN do it!
