  • Is Atkins safe for people with chronic kidney infections?

I've been feeling great since being on Atkins. I've had my periods of weakness and faintness...but I've figured out how to get around that, and I feel great. I'm losing inches and I just went down 1 pants size.

However, I started to have kidney infection symptoms again today, and my boyfriend asked me if I'm sure that a diet so high in protein like this, is alright for me..considering my health issues.

Does anyone here have any idea? I appreciate your help. Thank you

Well, Atkins is more a high fat diet than high protein. I generally try to eat 4 ounces of flesh at lunch and dinner and eggs for breakfast. I don't consider that a particularly high protein diet. Maybe you can use portion control and up your fatrotein ratio if you are concerned.

I do the same thing. I have eggs each morning, and meat & veggies in various forms of preparation, for lunch and dinner each day. Thank you for your reply

        From DANDR, page 107:
People with severe kidney disease (creatine over 2.4) should not do any phase of Atkins unless directed to do so by their physician.
