  • not losing weight please help!

i've been on induction for 3 days shy of two weeks now and havnt lost any
weight in fact i gained 2lbs. i guess i should start this by telling you the whole story.
Right from the get go doing this diet is a up hill battle for me because i'm on liquid methadone for pain because of a bad car wreck i was in that left me with a broken pelvis.i still have one more surgery before i should be back to "normal".the methadone dose i take daily has a total of 20 grams worth of
sugar alcohol '20 carbs"....but everyone ive talked to about it has said to ignore the carbs from the methadone and do the diet the same way anybody else would do.With that said a week before i started induction i was getting my body and mind used to not getting a lot of carbs by doing the rules of induction but not keeping track of anything.I was 250lbs when i started doing that and some how when i weighed myself before i started the real induction i found i had lost 10lbs.so i thought wow when i do this diet the right way im going to lose all kinds of weight...but that didnt happen.so anyway i started the induction phase on monday(4-13)
When i got ketostix on tues or weds it was as dark as it could be.so i was in ketosis by no later than weds. The first week i lost one pound.which was a little discouraging but i stuck with the diet.On tuesday of the second week when i weighed myself i had gained 2lbs.So as of today i weigh 241.
I bought the pc version of fitday and used it everyday to keep track of everything and according to fitday i never went over 20 carbs in a givin day. my ratios were always around 65%fat 5%carbs 25%protein.
So at this point i dont know what to do. the only thing i can think of that is stalling my weight loss is the carbs from the methadone.
If somebody knows anything that can help me or just want to comment on my situation please feel free to reply to this thread.
i am totally at a lost here and i dont want to give up so PLEASE HELP.

    thank-you

    love&peace

Hi, Cam! It is possible that the methadone is causing you problems, but other than that... could you post a few menus (include quantities for absolutely everything -- water, spices, meat, vegetables, etc.)? Then we can see if there is room for improvement there or if something else has to be changed.

          Hi Cam

I have the pc version but am not sure if it is possible to get it to display its info to others like the online one can.

When I get home in half an hour or so I will take a look and see if I can work out how to do it.

Otherwise you might need to re-enter your food log info into the online one manually and post a link to it.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            Cam, just a thought.

You could maybe take a 'screenshot' of your days log (control + Printscreen) and paste it into something like the basic 'paint' programme, save it as a jpg and then upload that into your album here and paste its url into a post.

I think that should work well enough to let others comment on your days' menus.

Just testing if the screenshot idea will work

A bit titchy but just legible I think.

Give it a try with some of your days' food logs, Cam

Re: not losing weight please help!

The only things I can see that might be affecting your losing is that you are eating a fair amount of pork rinds, which are quite salty and some people find affects them.

Also you had a lot of protein on one day - 43%, which is more than the often recommended 30%, but if it is only an occasional thing it should not make too much difference I would have thought.

Well done on drinking your water

Re: not losing weight please help!

Cam, you posted this in another thread:
Originally posted by vanzion View Post

This is actually very important! You see, when you switch from a carbohydrate-based diet to a controlled carbohydrate diet, there is a period of a few days in which your body is transitioning from burning mainly glucose for energy to burning mainly lipids. During this time, it will consume its glycogen stores. Since glycogen is stored with 3-4 parts water, a lot of water will also come off in the first days, which is why one experiences a significant weight loss in the first week of Induction. Even if you didn't keep track of what you were eating, you were doing Induction and your body got rid of a lot of water that week. In fact, if you follow the Rules of Induction, you don't even have to count what you are eating -- it's hard to go wrong.

So after the first two weeks of Induction, you actually lost 8 lbs. Based on the chart on page 158 of DANDR, this indicates you have a high degree of metabolic resistance. However, the results are skewed since you are getting 20 g of sugar alcohols from methadone, so your true resistance to lipolysis could be in the average range.

Your menus look okay. As Elizellen said, too many pork rinds there could cause you some water retention issues. Then you should also check the sausages for hidden sugars (e.g. dextrose) or other "illegal" ingredients.

I think there's nothing to be worried about. Most people see a slowdown in their weight loss after the first two weeks -- this is the so-called "Post Induction Stall Syndrome" or "PISS". Here is a thread explaining it: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-expected.html

I just want to say that I'm really impressed you're sticking to this WOE when going through a lot of pain and medication. Most people would use that as an excuse to procrastinate getting healthier. That's very admirable, just so you know!

Thank-you everybody for the help and support. Like i've said before this site is a godsend for people doing the low carb lifestyle.
I know this sounds strange but a few people i've talked to have said that when they stop losing a fews weeks into induction or extended induction that
they stop doing the diet for a day or two and get out of ketosis.
then they start induction all over again and it kicks they're weight loss
                        back into high gear.
Has anyone ever heard this and if so is it something one can do?

I've not done it and I don't think I ever would, because I hear horror stories of people who try to "controlled cheat" and just end up binging and derailing everything. I am just going to work through my stalls fair and square.

You already lost your 10 lbs in your first week - then you started induction... you can't lose that first weight twice... so right now you are in the typical post induction stall... just hang in there and you should start losing again in a week or two...
