Can anyone tell me if we should count calories on atkins?? I was told on one of my other forums (who mostly follow 2002) that we should get a min. of 1500 calories per day or weightloss will stall. I am following the 72 atkins plan and one of the first rules says "don't count calories". Anyone have any opinions/advice on this subject??

Re: Calorie counting?
The best way to sum this answer up is as follows: While you don't have to count calories, calories do count. In other words, if you eat perfect fat/carb/protein ratios but consume 4000 calories a day, you won't lose any weight. So, you should eat when you're hungry and hit your ratios, and eat until satisfied.- M/37

Re: Calorie counting?
You do not have to count calories as you start on this program, but sometimes stalls happen and then you might need to see what your calorie count is. Right now, don't worry about anything except carbs.
BTW, and just so you know, this board uses the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution not the 72 version and for the most part, we don't know anything about it. You might want to start a new forum for 72er's so folks who have questions or know it, will beable to come there and ask questionsand discuss it. If your interested, just PM Tom and he'll tell you what you need to do and how to do it.
I'll be one of your members if you need me.

Re: Calorie counting?
Yes. Eating below your daily requirements will slow down your metabolism. To increase your caloric intake, you simply have to eat more (esp. fat and protein). It's hard for me to advise you since you are not following the 2002 edition, as the rules in '72 were different.
By the way, a stall is defined as four consecutive weeks without weight loss or loss of inches. Are you taking body measurements? For long have you been "stalled"?"Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

What are you eating right now? Just give us an idea of your typical daily menu.

Re: Calorie counting?
Breakfast- 3 eggs (scrambled,no butter or anything), 3 strips bacon
Lunch- grilled chicken w/ hot sauce OR tuna w/ mayo OR ch. burger no bun
Dinner- usually same choices as lunch
Snacks- Cucumbers, pickels, bbq pork skins OR cheddar cheese snk
Drinks- 2 liters of water per day (w/a wedge of lime or cucumber) sometimes a diet coke/dr. pepper or crystal light
*** I know I need more veggies is what your going to say but there is just not a lot of veggies that I like. I make myself eat cucumbers and pickels but I just don't like anything else

Re: Calorie counting?
As far as calories are concerned you start the day out good (even without the butter
it looks like good energy.
Your lunch and supper could probably be a bit more substantial. You need a bit more fat with the chicken - like skin or a dipping sauce/dressing with fat to go with it. Now I am from the Julia Childs school of chicken - butter butter and more butter. You could sautee some veggies in some olive oil that would add some fat and some veggies. Do you like peppers? Snow peas? Green beans? Onions. Even if you did not like them before try them again. We change our food preferences soemtimes. Salad with a dressing would be good too and a few olives and some avocado.

She's following the '72 version of the Diet, liv. So veggies like green beans and snow peas aren't "legal" for the first week.Originally posted by liv View PostAs far as calories are concerned you start the day out good (even without the butter

This is what makes giving good advise difficult: we go by the 2002 diet, which is different than the 72 and 92 diets. And like Lynne said, there aren't alot of us who have read the '72 diet or know enough about it to give good advise.

Re: Calorie counting?
Sarranichole came here in the beginning of April and she had already started I am assuming she is at least up to 25 carbs by now and her post indicated she wanted to add more veggies so I suggested how.
But I am not a pro on 72
that is true.
(though I'd make a rhyme out of it)

Re: Calorie counting?
Like you liv, I'm not a pro in the '72 Diet. So I don't know if anything I say will actually help (or hurt). Her best bet is to read through the '72 book and see if what she is currently doing is in tune with what the '72 diet advises.~Megs~

Re: Calorie counting?
We do have a sister Low Carb board Low Carb Forums where you could start a special thread to interact with others on the early version of Dr Atkins Diet Revolution.Originally posted by Desertthorn View PostBTW, and just so you know, this board uses the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution not the 72 version and for the most part, we don't know anything about it. As the board there is for many different low carb ways of eating I think it would be a better place for discussion of a different version of Dr Atkins way of eating to that followed on ADBB and in my opinion less likely to be confusing as a thread on this board might be.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!
