  • Anyone know if the new Slim-Fast Low Carb drinks are okay?

I bought a six pack today.... "net 2 carbs" .... in a 11 ounce can. Tastes decent. In fact, tastes a little more bulky than the Atkins branded drinks which is my preference.

Also, I have been eating the Atkins bars.... because they say they are okay for "all phases" of the diet including the induction.... BUT then I noticed that the one type of bar is NOT okay in induction: the coconut chocolate bar is NOT supposed to be used initially.

    They are not Okay (sorry).

    The ingredients are:
Water, Calcium Caseinate, Milk Protein Concentrate, Canola Oil, Cocoa (Processed With Alkali), Potassium Phosphate, Mono and Diglycerides, Cellulose Gel, Glycerine, Maltodextrin, Cellulose Gum, Salt, Soybean Lecithin, Guar Gum, Sucralose (A Nonnutritive Sweetener), Artificial Flavor, Carrageenan, Sodium Citrate and Citric Acid. Vitamins and Minerals: Magnesium Phosphate, Sodium Ascorbate, Calcium Phosphate, Vitamin E Acetate, Zinc Gluconate, Ferric Orthophosphate, Niacinamide, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Thiamin Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Chromium Chloride, Biotin, Sodium Molybdate, Potassium Iodide, Phylloquinone (Vitamin K1), Sodium Selenite, Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3).

Milk protein concentrate is not allowed on induction, so the shakes aren't induction friendly.

Neither are the Atkins shakes or bars for the same reason (notwithstanding what Atkins Nutritionals Corp. says on the advertising). Dr. Atkins said eat nothing that's not in the induction list during the induction, and those things all contain items that are not on the induction list. So, to answer your question, they're not okay either.

You'll find your cravings for sweets/chocolate will dissipate over time if you do a clean induction. It's amazing that those 2-7 days of feeling crappy can have such a great positive, long term effect on your health.

aside from them being illegal for induction, why would you eat something whose ingredients you can't even pronounce?

Induction is all about getting rid of your addictions -- the stuff they put in the shakes and bars are worse than what you were eating before you came here....and the Slim-Fast shakes, they aren't any better.

You need to get a copy of the acceptable foods list -- stick with things on that list and nothing else. Learn to make meals not drink from a can. If you drink your food your hunger will come back sooner. Buy the book, read it and find out why the plan works and how it works. Here are a couple links you REALLY need to read. Good luck.
