  • Is 1/2 pound burger too much?

I don't know where the time went today but I ate a small chicken salad around 11am and I found myself at 8pm wondering what happened to dinner. I was starting to get real hungry so I got about 1/2 pound of meat and turned it into a burger, topped it with cheese, mayo and a slice of tomato.
I've never eaten a burger that big before and now I feel like I did "bad" for some reason.
I have this guilty feeling like I messed up??? Can't shake the feeling.. it's like I don't want to weigh myself tomorrow!!

I have 2 quarter pounders cooked on my Foreman, topped with cheese on a regular basis... all you did was combine them into one burger... You didn't do anything wrong

You were just fine--but you missed out on some of your veggies and they are important. One thing I find is that when I am super hungry like that I am better off making the meal and eating half of it. When you are starving you feel like you need the whole thing, but often if you wait you realize you really aren't hungry any more. I eat the rest 30 mins later if I am still hungry, but often I don't need it.

I ate a double whopper with cheese at the airport when I was stuck in transit (without the bun) and that had at least 8 oz of beef. It's not an unreasonable amount under the circumstances.

...it's only too much if you kept eating it past the point where you were full.

              mmmm burgers. :P

you are perfectly fine - really - as for the guilty feeling - that's something to work on, as it stems from low-fat dieting - as long as you didn't OVEREAT - and it satisfied your body for the meal you ate, following atkins/low-carb guidelines, you're FINE!

def. suggest more vegees though... :P

Big ditto here! Some days you are hungrier than others, and for me a half pound burger (usually 8 or 2 5oz) would be a normal meal. You have to fuel your body with something. You are already eliminating the carbs as a fuel source, so fat and protein is where it is at. If you are still hungry, eat! That is the beauty of the diet -- you aren't playing by or within necessarily anyone's recommended Calorie intake. You are playing by your own internal hunger scale.

Re: Is 1/2 pound burger too much?

I have the issues of guilt from eating like that too. Its conditioned from years and years of low-fat low-calorie dieting. I made my own breakfast sausage tonight and ended up eating nearly a half pound of it. I felt so guilty about it even though I knew I hadn't eaten past being full.

Its funny because in the end, when I filled in my foods for the day, my calories were only around 1300 for the day. I felt like I was majorly overeating just because of that conditioned guilt. In fact, I probably stopped myself from eating enough because of that guilt. I'm working on getting over it, but it's not easy!

As long as you didn't stuff yourself when you ate and ate till you are satisfied and full, you did absolutely nothing wrong!!

Feel good that we can eat this way and lose weight.

That burger sounds lovely! I've always had a love for fat and protein and that's the reason I started on this WOE. For a minute I felt guilty my first time around but it was just about a minute and that was all....lol Sounds like you are doing good.
