  • Atkins Bake on Induction?

I was looking over my DANDR while I was at the grocery store looking for some salad veggies and started to flip through some of the meal plans for 14-day induction. I noticed it said for breakfast it was a good idea to have a slice and a half of zucchini bread. That sounded off to me, I checked the recipe in the back of the book, and sure enough zucchini bread calls for a cup of atkins bake. That goes against everything I have heard on these boards and in the book about induction legal food. Do I have a fualty version of the book?

Yeah, the Recipes section in the book is a little tricky as not all recipes included in the Induction menus follow the Rules of Induction. An ADBB member who was posting here a few years ago and who started Atkins when Dr. Atkins was still alive once wrote that the contradictions between the rules and the recipes come from the fact that these recipes were designed based on the rules from the previous versions of the Atkins Diet (when you were allowed to have 20 carbs from whatever you fancied) and they were not updated for the 2002 edition of the book.

You should also remember that it's not really Dr. Atkins who wrote the book, but ghost writers, which may lead to further inexactitudes between chapters.

If you are on Induction, stick to the Rules of Induction as those are the ones hard to be changed by anyone other than Dr. Atkins. You need a doctor for those, but only a writer or a cook for the recipes.

I think you're the first person on this Board who wrote that she took the book with her at the grocery store. On the other hand, I've seen many people cheating because, once at the grocery store, they weren't sure whether whatever food is "legal" or "not". So kudos to you.

I don't even think they make Atkins Bake any more as folks said it was nasty tasting. If your hungry for something breadlike, try a cinnamon roll. Its not exciting, but okay

Yeah, the recipe section is very confusing... it doesn't "go" with the rest of the book.

About the Atkins Bake mix - it is not made anymore. I belong to the Atkins site, and received an email survery question not too long ago, asking if there would be an interest in them bringing it back. I don't know what they decided to do about it.

The alternative that I know of is called CarbQuick and I bought some online.

Ingredients: Carbolose flour (enzyme enriched wheat, vital wheat gluten, wheat fiber, high-protein patent wheat flour, vegetable fiber, canola oil, salt, dextrose, emulsifiers, enzymes, ascorbic acid, sucralose, calcium propionate), palm and palm-kernel oil, buttermilk powder, baking powder, egg white powder, lecithin, salt, natural flavors.

Since it contains wheat, it can introduced in Rung 9 (grains). It does have dextrose in it, but apparently a very small amount... serving size is 1/3 cup, and it list 0g sugar in the nutrition facts.

There are many who rave about it, but I wasn't impressed. There was a recipe for brownies that I tried. Even though it was kinda gross, I overate it anyway. Even in Maintenance, I have to avoid that kind of stuff... control issues with grains.

Nah, I'm not craving anything bread like, I was simply confused and wondering what other things might be contradictions I'm not aware of. Thanks for clearing it up! I'll be sure to ignore the induction menu planner XD
