  • How am I still in ketosis?

    Last night, I was bad. I was Atkins friendly all day long until 10pm when I went to a party and had a twix candy, 2 beers, and purple soda mixed with bacardi. Oh and then we went out to McDonals and I had a sausage mcmuffin.

    I felt bad this morning, and I knew I would be out of ketosis with all of the carbs in my body, but I figured I would just move on. So I ate Atkins friendly today, and I figured I'd test myself for the heck of it, and I'm still in ketosis.

    Huh?

    SW: 380+ (scale didn't go high enough)

    The answer to your question is in your question.

    The ketostix are picking up the ketones related to the beers and bacardi....

    You've done all you could by getting back on plan. That's a great result. Yesterday is gone, never to return...

      Ah, the false test of alcohol! I went to a party yesterday and, while I stayed on Atkins as far as the food was concerned (which wasn't easy since home made pecan pie with vanilla ice cream was offered!) but I did have drinks. This morning my sticks were moderate (I'm usually in trace to small). I had forgotten that alcohol will burn hot and fast first, before fat, and I got all excited too, for a minute, thinking I'd gotten away with something. I didn't and, sorry to say, neither did you (sigh)!
