  • Day 8 and wanting to eat

Today is day 8, have not cheated at all and I lost 5 pounds. Really frustrated that when I got on the scale today from Friday, I gained 1/2 pound. I did everything right I think!!!! Now I just want food but I am resisting. This is tough

Its very normal for your body to have weight fluctuations, do not be discouraged!!! Wait to weigh in again and the end of induction.

Are you drinking enough water? Just wondering because your status says Thirsty

Also if you have any doubt if you are indeed doing everything right, don't hesitate to post your menu and get some feedback.

TRY really hard not to weigh yourself every day. I usually weigh myself on Monday mornings, that way I have something to look forward and work toward. If I weighed myself daily, I would hyperfocus on the little changes instead of seeing the bigger picture. This *week* I lost 3 lbs... but if I weighed myself daily I guarantee it would have been up down up down up down... and the ups can be discouraging, even if its just half a pound.

The cure to this is to throw the scale out the window and to make the measuring tape your best friend. If you are not a violent person, then at least be cruel to the scale and ignore it until the end of Induction. For some of us, being cruel to the scale means only carrying about us and avoiding unnecessary disappointment that might trigger an episode of emotional eating.

Your weight will fluctuate from day to day due to various reasons: water retention (from exercise, excess sodium, etc.), a slower digestion, hormones. This is why Dr. Atkins wrote:

Body measurements are more reliable, so if you didn't take them before starting Induction, now is the time to do it.

You may want to also post your menu in the "Review My Menu" forum and let others take a look at it. Don't forget to include quantities for everything, from meat and veggies to water.

How much is enough water? I have heard 1/2 your weight in ounces. YIKES

That's just a very rough approximation. Another one says we should drink 64 oz, plus another 8 oz for every 25 lbs we have to lose. But the truth is, there is no exact amount. What Dr. Atkins wrote is that we need to drink at least 64 oz per day.

I will say this.. if I am hungry, I eat. I never not eat if I am actually wanting food. I keep it small and legal, a boiled egg with mayo, some greens saute'd in bacon fat... but I eat.

Welcome and much success to you!
