    What's the deal with mustard?
I get into like, phases with foods that I'll eat...ie- first month on atkins it was hamburger, then next month-steak, now I love so much grilled chicken breast with a slice of bacon and then mustard on it....i think that sounds SO gross...but it tastes really good. I guess it's just another of those things that I would have NEVER eaten before Atkins, but desperate times call for desperate measures, eh? lol
Annnyways, thats like usually, all i've eaten for dinner and/or lunch for the past two weeks, and I lost like 5 or 6 more pounds just this week and I'm quite happy! I used to have ranch on my burgers and chicken and stuff, but mustard has no carbs as opposed to the 3-4 that ranch has per tablespoon. I don't know, maybe it's helping cause I hadn't been losing so much in awhile until the past two weeks.
Anwyas, that all. just wanted to see what you guys thought about mustard/chicken, ect...
Do you think chicken is better than hamburgers for you?

    Re: Mustard

You need to read the ingredients to make sure the mustard contains ingredients legal for Atkins. For example, if the mustard contains honey or sugar or corn syrup, it doesn't matter if the label says 0 carbs for a serving of 1/16 teaspoon, it isn't legal for Atkins.

Also remember that these foods do have carbs because they are made from things that contain carbs: their labeling is only accurate for the serving listed on the label. If you eat more than that listed serving, then you are eating carbs.

      Re: Mustard

It's just plain yellow mustard with no sugar(or hidden sugars)...but i'd have to imagine that it's better to eat on things than ranch....
I know about serving sized though. I've researched and had a lot of practice on here.
What do you think about grilled chicken breast though? Do you think it's better for Atkins than Hamburgers? I'm just curious.

        Re: Mustard

Grilled chicken, steamed fish, fried pork chops....they're essentially all the same on Atkins. Dr. Atkins allowed us to eat any meat, poultry, seafood, eggs freely. There are some restrictions in terms of amounts (like organ meats are limited and some seafoods have naturally occuring carbs), but no animal protein form is better than the other.

The only thing about animal protein is that some are leaner than others. Typically that amount of fat differs about 1 or 3 grams. But if you are eating a leaner meat, like chicken breast or pork tenderloin, then you need to add some fat too it.

Personally, I eat more chicken and fish than I do beef, pork or lamb. But that's out of personal preference (and the amount of money I have in my wallet! ) When I eat something lean, like a non-oily fish like cod or tilapia, I make sure I add some fat to it in the form of butter or a high fat sauce like mayonnaise with a bit of mustard or horseradish. If I'm eating something fatty, like a well marbled porterhouse steak, I don't add extra fat to my meal.
