  • how to calculate net carbs

how come in my atkins book the carb amounts for foods are diferent than what they say on the labels. i know when you figure up the net carbs you subtract the dietary fiber but do you subtract other things also.
to give an example when i looked up the amount of carbs in celery online it
comes out to be 2 net grams but in the atkins book under acceptable food list it has celery listed has .8 net carbs?

Same quantity? Both raw? Because FitDay says pretty much the same thing as the book... 1 large celery stalk in Fitday has 0.9 net carbs.

That is 2 carbs including fibre - if you deduct the fibre it will be less.

Re: how to calculate net carbs

so do i subtract the total amount of dietary fiber from my total carbs for the
day. today so far i have a total of 17 carbs and 4 grams dietary fiber so that would mean my net carbs are actually 13 right?

Re: how to calculate net carbs

You got it. That is exactly how you do it. My fitday today says that I have had 26.4 carbs and 11.2 fibre. So my netcarb is 13.2.

BTW cam. you can make your pc fitday show the deduction of fiber from the total carbs by going to the 'View' menu , selecting 'current view' and scrolling down the dropdown menu to the 'choose food columns' option, then you tick 'fiber' and 'carb-fiber'.

How does every handle sugar alcohols? The peanut butter cups are killer, but they seem to stall my weight loss!!!

They stall many people I am afraid

Some of us seem to process sugar alcohols much like ordinary sugar products rather than them passing through as the manufacturers claim on their labels.

My personal rule is that if they do not give me the 'bathroom effect' then I need to count every pesky carb in them.
