  • Getting Frustrated!

    Hi everyone,

    I just need some incouragement!!!

I'm an old timer at atkins, i lost 23 ibs this time last year but came off the diet and put 13 ibs back on, so i'm here again to lose those stubbon ibs. I've been on "proper" induction for the last 4 days including today and have not lost a pound. I dont want to give up but i just need some words of encouragement. I feel less bloated and have lost a few inches, but i need to see those numbers go down on the scale, i think its a psychological thing I only have 13 ibs to lose so perhaps thats why!!

    Re: Getting Frustrated!

    Hi Polly
As a returning Atkineer you will probably remember that Dr Atkins considered either pounds or inches lost as being proof of losing fat. You have lost inches already, so it is working for you already

As for losing pounds, have you looked at the chart in DANDR (chapter 13) that shows what sort of metabolic resistance is displayed by losing various amount on the first 14 days on induction.

Look at the one for women with less than 20 pounds in total to lose. A loss of between 2 and 6 is used as examples of those showing high to low resistance to weightloss, so you might lose that sort of amount over the whole 14 days.

There is no knowing whether you are likely to lose weight mostly in the first week on induction, the second week, both weeks or not start losing till you move to OWL, so concentrate on those inches lost (= FAT lost )
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I feel your pain. Just be patient and follow the induction rules and you'll do fine.

        Re: Getting Frustrated!

Thanks for the help. I guess i need to put the damn scales away as its the first thing i think of in the morning and what the scale reads puts me in a bad mood. I think its because i lost the weight before and half of me is so cross at my self for putting those 13 ibs back on when i swore i would never be that weight again!!

Ho hum - all i can do is continue doing what i'm doing and see if i lose anything more over the next two weeks

          Re: Getting Frustrated!

You know Polly, the reason you put on those 13 pounds is because you went off Atkins, once you get down to goal, you know carbs add weight so think about going on Maintenance and continuing to limit your carb intake.
