I ordered some items off of netrition.com. Things like bbq sauce, sf peanut brittle, cinnamon flavored pork skins, davinci sf syrup, sf low carb cookie mix, pasta/pizza sauce, and low carb pasta. Is this okay for me to include these in my diet as long as I do it sparingly? All of the items are very low in carbs and are specially made for low-carbers. What do you think? Am I self-destructing my diet if I use these products? Thank you.

I think you may not have checked out what climbing the OWL ladder means. You are supposed to work in food groups one at the time. I have been doing Atkins for about 18 months and I have not gotten to the pasta/wheat thing quite yet. Read the book or look at the stickies in the OWL forum

OWL rung 1 is just adding 5 net carbs more veggies from the induction list, so unless you ordered veggies it is not appropriate for rung 1.People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

i ate these 10 net carb whole wheat wraps they were really thin but they made me stall for many months i had to end up takeing them out of my diet to lose weight again
whole wheat is OWL Rung 9 and at that time i never knew about OWL Rungs
so even if you stay low on your net carbs some of the high Rung foods can still make you stall so you need to be careful
here is a good video explaining the OWL Rungs

That is true. The pork rinds are probably fine. The SF syrups are legal sweeteners. Just keep down the amount. Mixes and pasta will keep fine. So in time you can enjoy more and more of it.
I have not ordered from a low carb store yet. Thinking I may do it - one of these days.

Thanks. I think I need to read up on the OWL rungs. I didn't know there were rungs until joining this site (I'm new). And I haven't finished reading the book, but I didn't see anything in it about rungs. I guess my whole wheat pasta and goodies will have to wait...and come to think of it, maybe this IS why my weight loss stalled. I've ordered these products before (sf candy, atkins bars, etc), consuming in small amts but I guess this is what stalled my weight.

You can add these things WHEN they match the rung you are on. For instance if there is any nut flour in the baking mixes then you can't add them till rung 3. If the mixes also contain any flour, then you have to wait until the flour rung to add these mixes, even if most of the mix is not flour.
I have found that the mixes and things are without a doubt the BIGGEST cause of stalls for me. Too much stuff mixed in--even if they claim it is low carb. And the portion size is miniscule on many of them so you end up eating 2-3 portions and then it isn't so low carb either.

You are quite right - Dr Atkins didn't mention the word 'rungs' in DANDR.Originally posted by shabutter587 View PostThanks. I think I need to read up on the OWL rungs. He did however talk about the carbohydhrate ladder and about how during the main weightloss phase of Atkins (OWL) we are supposed to move up the different levels of that ladder in order, adding 5 net carbs of different groups of foods.
In real life when someone climbs a ladder they call the bars across it that they stand on either steps, treads or rungs (not levels) so we tend here to use the word 'rungs' as a shorthand for the phrase 'levels of the carbohydrate ladder'Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
