  • Night Time Sweats

    Hi guys,

I've been getting really hot and sweaty at night recently, i'll wake up in the middle of the night and i'll be soaked through my clothes and really hot and sweaty.

Is this anything to do with Atkins and low blood sugar levels??

    Re: Night Time Sweats

I don't think I have ever heard of it as an Atkins symptom, but almost every woman I know in her forties and fifties has dealt with it! LOL I had a vicious case of perimenopausal night sweats last night. Hate it!

I would. It could just be a freak hormone fluctuation but better to know what's going on. I feel for ya. Its just such a yucky way to spend the night and ruins your sleep too.

Polly, WebMD has information on possible causes too. Not to freak you out but there are lots of reasons you might have night sweats--all the more reason to get them checked out.

                Re: Night Time Sweats

I had horrid night sweats and chills during my first week of induction. Make sure you are drinking enough water. My doc said sometimes it happens when you are cleansing your body of toxins.

                  Re: Night Time Sweats

Hey Polly, I am 23 (way too young to be experiencing the change or anything of the sort) and I too have been experiencing night sweats. I'm not really waking up in the middle of the night with them but when I wake in the morning I find my hair is really greasy from sweating and I have thrown the covers off sometime during my visit to the land of nod! My friends father is a GP and he advised it could be my body's reaction to the diet. Not in a bad way but because my body is experiening ketosis (a fat burning state) it is common for the body to excrete the fats via sweat glands (not just by our bowel and bladder movements). I am in full blown ketosis and have found that since I have been, I have seen an increase in my night sweats! Basically I was told it wasn't anything to worry about, as unpleasant as it may be. By all means get yourself checked out but they way I look at it, I have lost 6lbs in 3 full days on atkins, if I continue on this scale of weight loss, ****! I'll sweat as much as I need to!!! I think as long as you're not experiencing a shortness of breath or heart palpatations, don't give it a second thought! Hope this helps and good luck with the diet, take care x
