  • What's wrong with me??

well..I've been on the Atkins diet for 7 weeks now..and i've lost right at 20lbs...it's been really weird this time around for me. During induction i lost about 10lbs and then i stalled out for about 2 weeks. Then all of a sudden i lost about 6 lbs. during the 4 and 5th week..and in week six i lost about 3lbs..and now it has just stopped again!! what is up with that? i haven't added anything new to my diet.. still eating green beans and salad like always..drinking lots of water...baked chicken, pork and some steak...an egg and a couple pieces of bacon for breakfast..I am keeping my carbs around 30 a day just to be on the "safe" side..b/c i still have about 20-30lbs to go...
Any idea of what i can do? i also was wondering does anyone take "carb blockers" along with this diet? i don't but was wondering if that might help? they are herbal supplements and i don't know if they would make any difference or not..but anyhow..let me know what you all think! thank you for everything! take care

( my weight started at 205 and now i'm down to 186lbs. i'm happy about the loss so far i just want to know why i keep stalling out!! it's not fair!!

What is wrong with you? NOTHING. You are perfectly normal, and do I have the thread for you!

Also realize as you approach goal, weight loss slows.. think about it, at 200 pounds a pound was a 'half percent' of YOU! at 186 a pound is a nice bit more than a 'half percent' so will take longer to come off.

You are FINE and definitely don't need carb blockers, just patience! and the recognition that you have accomplished a lot already! Trust the process and yourself!

Also, here's my motto, if you are exercising, there is no such thing as a stall. You can always be building strength, stamina, 'sturdiness' into your body, whether the needle on the scale is moving or not. And your shape will change in a way you love. Whether it's weights, Pilates, aerobic dancing, (my favorite, Callanetics!) swimming, biking, walking.. if you are doing it, things are moving in the right direction every day, and you will reap the results. Just keep at it!

            Re: What's wrong with me??

hello! absolutely nothing is wrong with you - in fact - you are FABULOUS!

seriously you are. you've stuck with this way of eating now for 7 weeks and you've lost 20 pounds in SEVEN WEEKS!!! from someone who's "only" lost 20 pounds in FOUR MONTHS - I am telling you - really - you are doing incredible!

You really have to look at this as your new way of life. no questions asked. And because this new HEALTHY way of eating is how you're going to live for the rest of your life - the weight WILL come off - even if it takes a while longer than you hope/wish it will...

I changed my eating habits on January 03, 2009 and since then I'm - again - *only* down 20 pounds...but the way I look at it? "HOLY CRAP - I'VE GOTTEN RID OF 20 POUNDS!!!!" I feel fabulous - i look fabulous - my clothes are so loose I need to wear belts. If I wouldn't have changed my eating habits and stopped eating sugar and started eating the REAL way - low carb - real whole foods...I more than likely would have not only NOT lost those 20 pounds - but I'd have continued trying low-fat diets only to GAIN 20 pounds and always feel guilty about never sticking to anything.

If you wouldn't have started eating this way - where would you be now - after 7 weeks? 7 weeks from now - where will you be? Even if it's *only* 7 pounds more that you lose in the next 7 weeks - that'll be 7 more pounds gone!

Every day that passes - life will pass you by - and you'll keep waking up thinking, "why didn't i do what i shoulda done then..." but you ARE doing it - and if you KEEP doing it - you'll eventually wake up and realize, "wow - look at that, I'm at goal!"

it's like my quote in my siggy:

"Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyways; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use."

I always say, too - even if i *only* lost 1/2 pound per week - by continuing to eat this way that is healthy for me - then on on this day next year I'll be 26 pounds LESS than where I am now!

there will be weeks when you don't lose an ounce...and that may become 2 weeks - BUT maintaining is SO much better than losing and your body does catch up with itself and then all of a sudden - BAM 4 pounds gone.

just keep at it. good luck!

you know what you are completely right! I love this Atkins website just for the reason that i can get some GREAT advise like that!! you are awesome! thank you so much for all that you wrote to me! i'm going to keep my head up and You're right on with everything you said....at least i'm not gaining weight! and to maintain is very important! I'll be alot better off being on this diet in the long run..b/c if i didn't do all this..i'd probaly be 20lbs heavier than i am now and i'd be depressed still and i wouldn't have clothes to wear b/c they'd be so small..and that would be awful!!
But thank you so much for you're words of encouragement! it means alot to me! you look great and i wish you the best of luck with everything life brings you! you're awesome!!

                  Re: What's wrong with me??

You sound like a Wait and Whoosher. I started a thread on this in the Main forum a month or so back. I'll bump it up. You are doing just fine and this pattern is a very common loss pattern. Don't let it annoy you--just know you will get your whoosh eventually!
                  JILL

                  HW 298
                  HW (this time) 248
                  GOAL ONE 228
                  (take 2)
                  GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
                  GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
                  FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.
