  • Going on a trip: Plane ride/concert

Okay, so this weekend, I'm going to Chicago to see my favorite band EVAR: Keane. It'll be my first time, and I'm sooooooooooooooooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!

    ^Hehehe. Can you tell?

Anyway, I don't want to up my diet, so what sorts of things can I bring along? I'll be traveling/in the car/airport a lot the first day, then I'll be somewhere I can't really cook. I'm really worried about the things I can do, because it's not like a road trip where I can bring a cooler. I can't, because I'll be on a plane. Hard boiled eggs will be all...weird and warm. And cheese will get too warm, too. Even lunch meat and lettuce will wilt. What are my options?

Any ideas would be awesome. Thanks!!!

Canned tuna or chicken, cheese (even if warm, still better than something that's not "legal"), veggies like peppers hold quite well if whole.

But if you don't have a luggage to check in and put your food there, then you probably won't be allowed to take food on board. Subway saved me many times in airports... Order a salad (avoid the pickled stuff, just fresh veggies) with meat (tuna salad might have "illegal" ingredients, so grilled chicken or something like that is a safer option) and ask for oil and vinegar for dressing. Cheese sticks, even if warm, are still better than some carby stuff. If you find a 7-Eleven nearby, some of them sell boiled eggs (at least they were a few months ago in Long Beach) and you can have those for breakfast.

And always keep a bottle of water close, so that you don't confuse thirst with hunger.

    Have a great time!

Thanks so much!! I read some things about fast food. (ew, ew, puke) and if I *had* to, I guess I could order a McDonald's burger with no cheese, no ketchup, mustard, and mayo on a bed of lettuce. (and no pickle and onion for me.) I like your Subway idea much better though, but if I'm in the mood for something more filling, will that McD's idea work? I read some threads on this, so I figured if worse comes to worse...

Sorry, I don't know what kind of meat is in the McDonald's hamburgers. KFC has a low carb menu option, where they serve the burgers with lettuce and with or without cheese (no ketchup and stuff), but again, I don't know what goes into the meat. You're right, there were a few threads recently where this was discussed... if I remember correctly, the conclusion was that they are "legal", I think someone googled the ingredients or something like that.

You can carry canned tuna or chicken with you (there are also those individual tuna packets, not canned) and just order a salad and add your own meat to it. It's good to have some individual packets of "legal" dressings as well, if you're not a fan of oil & vinegar.

Maybe someone who eats at McDonald's or KFC can give you more info on their menus.

It's okay, you're always such a big help for me. KFC's ingredients actually contain a great deal of illegal things such a soy products and sugars in their marinades.

KFC® Grilled Chicken Fresh Chicken Marinated with:

Salt, Sodium Phosphate, and Monosodium Glutamate Seasoned with: Maltodextrin, Salt, Bleached Wheat Flour, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and Cottonseed Oil, Monosodium Glutamate, Spices, Palm Oil, Natural Flavor, Garlic Powder, Soy Sauce (Soybean, Wheat, Salt), Chicken Fat, Chicken Broth, Autolyzed Yeast, Beef Powder, Rendered Beef Fat, Extractives of Turmeric, Dehydrated Carrot, Onion Powder, and Not More Than 2% Each of Calcium Silicate and Silicon Dioxide Added as Anticaking Agents. Contains Wheat and Soy.

Ick. Just looking at all that makes me wanna yack. I read that McD's has 100% real beef though. So I think I'd be okay with that.

you'd be fine with a bunless burger from mcd's. Actually, you can probably find a legal meal at most places, aside from chinese/asian or mexican i would think (i've never been able to find anything at these types of places). even most pizza places (here anyway) do non breaded wings.

i've never found travelling too hard. For the plane i usually jsut bring some cheese strings or pepperoni sticks in my purse, they're pretty easy to travel with. And most airlines don't provide complimentary meals anymore from what i've noticed, especially if it's not a long haul flight..so good to be prepared!

Awesome! I'm going to The Fresh Market today for a few things, so I'll try and find some good legal, natural snacks for me to have (that won't break my Owl Rung 1 rules. So...no nuts yet. *sigh*)

Cheese 'crackers' travel well and keep crisp if stored in an airtight container.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Oh yeah! I forgot about those! Aren't those the ones you just microwave and let harden? If I remember a recipe correctly, you just place them on a plate with wax-paper and microwave them, then let them sit for a bit...I think...

Is it really that easy? lol
