  • Well this stinks...

So I wrote a post last week wondering if dairy may be an issue for me and my doc wanted me to try to eliminate it. We did an food allergy panel a week and a half ago to see if there is something causing my issues (related to medical stuff, not weight loss). Anyway, the test came back today and guess what I'm HIGHLY allergic to?

EGGS!!! Great, I only eat a million a day.

I'm moderately allergic to milk (not goat milk), whey, some cheese, wheat, and peanuts. Those are all common allergies, but why oh why do I have to have ALL of them?

She said I need to eliminate eggs for 6 months and then we'll see if I can reintroduce them. Unfortunately she said that of all the things we tested for, she's had very few patients be able to eat eggs again without issue whereas the other foods can typically be reintroduced once the antibodies are no longer present. Ugh. Eggs are in everything!!!

As for the moderate stuff, I have another appt with her Friday so we'll go over it in detail, but for now she said I can't eat those things more than 1-2 times a week.

I just got the ok to add a little dairy back in and now this. No revolution rolls, pumpkin bread, hard boiled eggs, omelettes, some dressings, etc...

    Poor me.

On a positive note, I did lose some inches according to my measurements this weekend and I am FINALLY experiencing suppressed appetite which will probably help things along. I've been so hungry this whole time. If I'm this allergic to eggs than I imagine getting rid of them will really make me feel better and maybe help some of my other medical stuff. I'm trying to focus on that and not on what I can't have. It's still a bummer though.

    Thanks for listening.

Dr. Atkins wrote in the chapter on food intolerance that sometimes the foods we love the most are the foods we are most allergic to. The chapter has other stuff in it that will be helpful to you.

That is a bummer. Glad there was some positive in your day too.

Well I picked up the results and it looks like cheddar, mozzarella, and cottage cheese are okay. For dairy I guess it's mostly cow's milk and whey protein. The eggs are off the chart though. Hopefully I can still have a little cheese. That will make it a little easier. Eggs are in so many recipes...oh well.

Sorry this had to happen. I hope you can find some ways to work around it. Megs links should help. All I can send is a hug.

                  Re: Well this stinks...

Thanks so much. I was doing ok with it until last night when I realized I can't have mayo. Duh. I had already starting thinking of things I could eat and I came up with tuna salad, chicken salad, turkey wrapped in lettuce with mayo and bacon. Nope! There is egg free mayo which I'll try, but I bet it's nasty. Oh well. I'll survive, it's just hard being so limited. I may move up the rungs faster if I can't find enough to eat. I just have to be even more prepared. Thanks again.

                    Hiya,

Re a 'mayo' substitute - you could 'whizz' some mozzarella/cottage cheese/goat's cheese with some oil and some vinegar/lemon juice, and other flavourings like herbs, pepper, olives, sun-dried tomatoes etc., or if you can have cream/sour cream what about trying some lemon juice/herbs/black pepper in them?

Can you have blue cheese? I've made a great blue cheese dressing with blue cheese blended with olive oil. I suppose you could also try it with cheddar?

B*mmer about the eggs though. I'm at work now, but if I think of some more options for dressings I'll get back to you later.

Oooh, oooh - what about using tofu as a 'base' for the dressings?
