well i'm back from the doc today, turns out i -do- have a staph infection thats been causing all my woes lately, and a pretty bad one. i have to take antibiotics (trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole) twice a day for the next 10 days, and if it isn't cleared up by then or comes back, i have to go back and have the infection site cut out surgically.
my blood pressure was also 'weird' (as the doc said) at 116/75. i told him about the amount of exercise i'd been doing, as well as water and avoiding salt, so that seemed to explain the low numbers to his satisfaction.
although he didn't crucify me for doing atkins, he did suggest though that while i'm on my meds and trying to heal that i eat more like maintenance and try to add some fruit and a little whole grain at least. i guess he doesn't want me to do anything that might hinder the healing process, but i'm bummed to say the least. i know everyones advice on here is to do whatever your doctor says, and i guess 10 days isn't the end of the world... but i'm having a hard time talking myself into doing what he says.

We're here for you no matter what.

. This WOE has brought you health. How the h*ll are whole grains and sugar from fruit going to heal you? He must have discovered something new and genius in his lab that we don't know about. I mean, c'mon, I don't see this suggestion as valid doc orders. He probably figures you won't do what he says and it'll be his fallback just in case your infection is resistant and the antibiotics don't kill it. The most I would do in your case is move to OWL Rung 1. It may just jumpstart things for you. There's only one way to find out. If I was still eating carbs at induction level, I wouldn't be losing any weight. It didn't start again until I added more veggie carbs every single day. It's certainly less of a risk than spiking sugar cravings. I wouldn't go there. That will make one problem turn into many more. I'll step off the soapbox now. I just hate to see you get derailed by some guys best guess at what might help. Keep taking your vitamins and supplements and your meds. I've never read a medical study that said fighting infection required whole grains and fruits. Hang in there. It very well may turn out just fine.
