  • Any bad meats?

Is there any "bad" meat out there that one should stay away from on Atkins?

Secondly, I had been using the cheapest kind of ground beef for my burgers in the skillet, and it would release these globs of a gray fatty-looking substance after cooking that I had to push away from the meat. I noticed this didn't happen with ground chuck, but it was more expensive, too. Has anyone found a meat type that doesn't release this stuff but isn't expensive?

You should stay away from meats with sugar (in all its forms), fillers, additives, MSG, and sodium nitrite or sodium nitrate.

If I'm correctly thinking of what you mean by the "globs," I get those in all hamburger I cook, regardless of the quality of the meat. Normal. I usually buy 85/15 ground chuck or sirloin. I do find that buying "Select" meat for burgers is fine, but "Choice" and above (Prime) for steaks is better.

As slapshot mentioned anything with fillers etc. This can include boxed burgers from teh grocery store..as well as sausage, some deli meats, pepperoni's etc. It's a good idea to get into the habit of reading ingredients as well as nutritional panels on food.

Stay away from anything breaded/battered obviously as well like nuggets, chicken fingers etc.

The reason your seeing all that fat is it's regular ground beef. Just not lean. You can just pour the fat off after it's cooked....
