  • Please help!!

    Hi,

    I am on Day 6 of the Induction phase and have a few questions as I have never tried Atkins before. Am I allowed to eat Oscar Meyer Bologna if it says 0 carbs?? Or I am supposed to look at the ingredient list to see if there are hidden sugars? (I am waiting on the book to come in the mail) Also, if I accidentally go over 20g of carbs one day, should I start a new 14 day cycle the next day? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Yep, read the list of ingredients. Here's what the beef one has:
    Ingredients: LIGHT BEEF BOLOGNA-BEEF, WATER, CORN SYRUP, MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF SALT, SODIUM LACTATE, SODIUM PHOSPHATES, SODIUM DIACETATE, SODIUM ERYTHORBATE (MADE FROM SUGAR), FLAVOR, SODIUM NITRITE, EXTRACTIVES OF PAPRIKA.
    Yuck! Not allowed on Atkins at all, not only on Induction!

    Also, if I accidentally go over 20g of carbs one day, should I start a new 14 day cycle the next day? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
    If you follow the Rules of Induction, it's hard to go over 20 net carbs. Also track your foods in FitDay or a similar online tool, to avoid this from happening. But if you "accidentally" go over, then just be careful not to repeat the mistake and move on -- do not restart.

      you can always check for hidden carbs by using this calculator....I find in invaluable when it comes to all the "0" carb foods out there. Just imput the information it asks for and you'll have your answer. Low Carb Diet Tools - Hidden-Carbs Calculator

      We strive for 20 carb per day on induction. How many carbs over have you been eating? If it is just a couple I wouldn't go back and start over, just recheck what you are eating and make adjustments. When I first started on Atkins I would put everything I was planning to eat the next day into FitDay so I knew what my totals were and could make adjustments -- after a couple weeks I "got it" and don't need to do this all the time - but when I first add new food into my meals with each Rung I do put things the night before to make sure I'm still on track.

        Corn syrup, starch and sugar. Hmmm. That is an impressive list of no nos.
        Are you counting net carbs (fiber carbs removed)?
        Startdate: November 18, 2007. Female 5'2"

          Thank you all for clearing that up! I started Fit Day...what an awesome web site. And yes, now I am understanding so much better what and how much to eat. I am eating an average of 15-18 net carbs per day and I feel amazing!!! I have dropped 7 lbs. in 7 days. I think that my big mistake during this first week was that I ate some processed meats a few times in the first few days, but I still was right around 20 carbs. I am much more careful now, and eating better meat and filling up on it! Thanks again and have a guilt free weekend to all!
