  • We deserve a GOLD STAR!!!

I am so very happy with DH and I today! We went to a festival where there was music and TONS & TONS of yummy carnival food & frozen drinks. Normally, we would have been in HOG HEAVEN and pigged out!

Well, it took us a long time before we were able to find a vendor with something that we could eat, which was a bunless plain beef hotdog. It wasn't all that great, especially when we were seeing food everywhere we really wanted to have instead. Not to mention all over the place were people handing out free bags of potato chips, Mexican food samples (MY FAVORITE FOOD!) etc, we turned everything down and ate our hotdog with great hopes of weight loss and health.

We did almost give in to temptation about having a corn dog and splitting an elephant ear, maybe splitting a frozen alcohol drink. We even stood in line! But, we both looked at each other just before it was our turn to order and we were both thinking the same thing, because we both left the line with out saying a word! We agreed that we don't want to be FAT anymore and this food was just evil temptation that we needed to walk away from. So, we kept walking right by all the food, the cotton candy, candy apples, pizza ETC!

Not only do we deserve GOLD STARS for the fact we stayed strong in the face of evil, but we also walked about 4 miles today!!!! It was a mile and a half to and from our car, plus about a mile at the festival! I am so proud of us! Tonight after dinner, (fried chicken in butter) we are going walking some more! We want to lose a lot of weight, actually, we need to lose a lot quickly, neither one of us has appropriate wedding clothes (my cousins wedding), so we are hoping to buy something in a store... probably dreaming big, but we got 3 weeks! Miracles can happen, so they say!

Congratulations, You do deserve gold stars. That is so hard in the beginning to be in situations where food is everywhere. Most of our "events' are geared towards food. You did well, you will be rewarded no doubt.

Um, you deserve a PLATINUM star. I thought going to Hershey Park was tough. What a day of temptation you had! Good for you. If you could make it through today, you can make it through any day. Bravo!

Hehehe, thanks! I didn't think we were going to be able to maintain, we didn't plan to end up there today actually. So, there was no planning ahead and we were both staving because it was lunch time. We so easily could have slipped, we were right there! I never imagined we would have the strength, but we did!

There was a lot of FAT people there, eating all of these things and we just don't want to be them anymore. We seen the way others were looking at them, the comments people were making.... I can't wait until we are under 300 pounds!

I so loved reading your post! Great job to both you and your DH. You are on your way to building a strong foundation to a much healthier you on your weightloss journeys. It really is about putting yourself first and able to make healthier choices. The world is full of temptation and by both of you making it through the day with clean eating shows just how serious you both are about your health.
Kudos and pats on the back to both of you. I'm very, very proud of you both. Keep up the fantastic work you're both doing for yourselves.
It wouldn't suprise me one bit if you both were down a size in 3 weeks for that new outfit for the wedding.

Re: We deserve a GOLD STAR!!!

                Thanks everyone!

How long does it take to get into Ketosis? We are going on day 3 on Sunday, so, just curious. We don't have the "Atkins flu", feel horrible or have funky breath/pee. Is it possible to not have any symptoms at all? We don't have the Keto-sticks (or whatever) and aren't planning to waste money on them. Just curious anyway.

We haven't had one cheat since we started yesterday morning!

In general, it takes something like 2-4 days. I need about 2 or 3.

Most people get the "Induction flu" around day 3-5, so don't celebrate yet... but some have milder symptoms, while others get... knocked out. The "funky breath/pee" should be there, because you have to eliminate acetone (a type of ketone) as it cannot be used for fuel; but how bad the ketone breath/pee is also an individual thing. Two ketosis symptoms you should experience are decreased appetite and thirst.

Hats off to you both for walking away! And so early in Atkins when that carbdevil is still whispering loudly in your ear!! You are going to make this journey, the signs are there already.
I'd like to make a suggestion if I may, carry some snacks with you.
I went to the Bronx Zoo w/ my 5 yr olds kindergarten class last week and knew my food choices would be limited. I carried red/green peppers, a cut up tomato, turkey and roast beef and water. I always try to keep my liittle cooler or lunch bag handy- no matter what. This has kept me from eating the wrong foods.
I have found that I need to be prepared or I will fail.
I wish you the best of luck.
