What is Dr Atkins stand on using SALT?

    Re: SALT restrictions in Atkins?

He didn't place any restrictions on using salt. We need salt in our diet. They have backed down on the "salt" causing high blood pressure, unless you are sensitive to it. Mostly, it is all the processed and bleached salt that causes the problem. It is also all the processed salt in processed foods that create a problem. Since on Atkins, you should be eating very little processed foods, you are eating way less salt to begin with.

It's best to use sea salt with the minerals still in it. The body needs to balance sodium and potassium and magnesium to keep the body properly hydrated, so if you are out of balance (high or low) on any one of them, the body holds on to water to keep from losing any more, which can result in fluid retention. Unprocessed sea salt still has 57 minerals in it including potassium and magnesium.

If you are still eating a lot of processed foods laden with salt, you might retain fluid. The less processed foods you eat, the better the "diet" will work for you.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
