  • Help I Cheated

Okay, today was the last day of induction for me and out of the blue, I cheated big time. I just ate two croissants for breakfast.
    Now, I am worried.

Does this mean, I will gain the weight back that I lost?
Do I have to go back and do another induction?

I will cut up my veggies and prepare my omelets for the coming week and try again. I was just unprepared this morning and it is a holiday for us here and we had a huge family breakfast, which in German, for us means bread, bread, bread. If I had had my eggs ready or bacon precooked, I would not have cheated.

    What do I do now?

The croissants probably threw you out of ketosis, so you will have to do Induction for a few more days until you get back there. Then you can move to OWL Rung 1 and add more vegetables.

You do not have to start Induction again. And don't even consider not eating vegetables today. It's not veggies that caused you trouble, but the croissants... so leave those healthy foods on your menu.

It doesn't mean you'll gain back all the weight you've lost, but you will probably gain back some -- part water, part fat -- and unless you weighed before cheating, you won't be able to determine your degree of metabolic resistance. When you ate those croissants you gave your body a lot of glucose that will be stored as glycogen in the liver. If you were in glucosis, this glycogen would be converted to glucose to be used as your body's main source of fuel. But since your body is/was in lipolysis, it won't be very efficient in dealing with the sugar surplus, so you will be also retaining a lot more water than usual (when you were regularly eating croissants) as glycogen is stored with a few parts water.

Check Chapters 19 and 21 in DANDR 2002 to read how you should plan your meals in the "real world" and how to prevent cheating in the future.

      Thank you for the info.

The sad thing was the croissants smelled really good and they used to taste really good but this time they did not. I cheated for nothing!!
I hope that I will be back in Ketosis tomorrow. I am going to eat a nice salad for lunch and then try again with eggs for breakfast tomorrow.

As for reading the chapters, I lost my book in the move to Germany. I need to hop online and order another one from Amazon.de

I need to remember what veggies are good for induction. I was not limiting my veggies because I was in high ketosis. By the way, that was hard explaining to the Apotheke that I wanted the sticks to test. Of course they wanted to know why!! I do not even try to explain it to others, they just do not understand.

Anyway, I am out of ketosis so I guess I better watch what I eat today and not overdo. I do not want to put those kilos back on.

Well, during Induction, veggies are limited to 3 cups per day, so that you can maximize your weight loss results and determine your degree of metabolic resistance at the end of the 14 days using the chart on page 158. Knowing this will then allow you to estimate your CCLL, which is quite useful when you start OWLing.

This is the list of foods acceptable during Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

Okay, I need to measure my veggies then. I have not been doing that. I have just been winging it. I have been eating one big salad a day.

My appetite has disappeared too. I lost all cravings for sweets. I was really nice.

Thanks for the link. I have printed out the info on the veggies.

Just tell them you are diabetic... they should hand them right over...
